On tap at Pizza Paradiso. Hazy orange color with a sturdy white head. Good retention, and the lace left on the glass is quite impressive.

Big, juicy hop aroma in the nose. Lots of citrus, tropical fruits and some pine. Oranges and grapefruit abound. A bit herbal as well. Caramel malt takes a back seat here for sure.

Solid malt character holds up well with a great combination of hops. Pretty much all different hop flavors are present, citrus, tropical fruit, earth, herbal, pine, you name it. Despite the combo, nothing gets overwhelming, and the bitterness is held in check enough to avoid being just a hop bomb.

Medium body, with ample carbonation. I am impressed that not only is the malt bill strong enough to stand up to the combination of hops, it avoids being overly bitter. Very well done. Easier to drink than I thought is would be. Easily my favorite Mikkeller beer.

Brown glass bottle appears to be 330ml. The top is a standard pressure cap. Acquired at Ramirez Liquor in Los Angeles, California. I don't recall the cost. Served into a conical Guinness pint glass at me gaff in low altitude Los Angeles, California. Reviewed live.

Expectations are quite high as Mikkeller is me favourite brewery, but Mikkel tends not to brew bright beers as well as he does dark beers.

Served a bit warmer than refrigerator cold. Poured without any extra vigor as I didn't anticipate any carbonation issues.

A: Pours a four finger head, quite thin, without any real trace of cream. No lacing on the head. Retention is average, but the ABV is above average. Beer colour is a semitransparent copper.

Sm: All manner of hop aroma, some bittering, others not so much. Not skunky. Very diverse. Some caramel. Estery. A moderate strength aroma.

T: Hops of all kinds, without too much bitterness. Not at all full bodied. Tastes very much like an experimental beer. All the flavour is on the midpoint; there's just emptiness in the first and third acts. Very structurally brief. Horrendously balanced. Fails as an IPA. Built poorly. At least the malts are clean. Where's the flavour? No alcohol or yeast comes through.

Mf: Extremely thin. Smooth and wet. Undercarbonated. This beer's main issue is its lack of a full body, and the mouthfeel is as much to blame as the flavour profile. Damned flat.

Dr: Easy to drink because it's basically hopped barley water. A major disappointment from Mikkeller, maybe his worst beer I've tried other than Drink n the sun. If I tried this again, it would have to be on draught. Avoid unless you'd murder your grandma for the style.

reviewed from notes taken on 2.16.12. poured into a Brooklyn Brewery tulip. thanks to Brawley's Beverage for the nice Mikkeller selection.

A - deep orange/rust color with slight haze; frothy one-finger has an almost yellow tint; good retention and LOTS of lacing

S - all hops ranging from citrus to floral to slightly herbal; there is a particular herbal? smell that is not familiar to me that i would describe as being close to new plastic smell(not bad per se but different)

T - mostly citrusy hops at first with some bittering and peppery hops coming through after; taste fades pretty quickly with little aftertaste

M - thin body; light carbonation; light on palette overall

O - seems a bit "noisy" and it is surprisingly easy to taste that there are many different hops here; the flavors cycle around quickly and fade just as quickly; more of a concept beer than a real ipa; not bad but would not seek out again; cool label!

A: Definitely one of the most beautiful IPA colors I've seen. Up there with Maharaja as far as glowing copper. Nice white head that settles slowly. Just a stunning IPA.

S: Huge hop hit, musty and citrusy. Grassy, piney, peppery. This really has it all. Crazy to think there is 19 hops in this. They all show up somehow.

T: Perfect balance, not overly bitter somehow. Definitely more bitter than 1000 IBU's. A touch of sweet malt followed by pungent, bitter hops. Nothing overly citrusy on the palate, more of a piney hop character.

M: Is this the first Mikkeller beer that actually is to style!? Creamy mouthfeel, hops are dead on for an American IPA. Reminiscent of 90 minute to me. Hop forward IPA done well.

O: Definitely impressive, absolutely delicious. Beautiful from the pour to the last sip.

On tap at Sessions in Greensboro.Poured into an imperial nonic a deep hazed burnt orange with a well defined one finger white crown,I loved the intense orange color of the beer.A mix of deep pine resin, grass, and grapferuit rind in the nose, the aromas didnt jump at ya but they were appetizing.Awesome hop complexity on the palate, resiny and citric with mild onion-like flavors as well,a sweet biscuit malt base actually holds up well to the big hops.A real nice complex ipa, most of the different hop flavors came thru from each hop making it very unique,I loved it.

Appears a hazy dark orange with a small off white head that quickly fades into a mild cap. Scattered streaks of lacing are left around the glass.
Smell is of intense hops, grass, flowers, citrus, pine, cut wood, biscuit malts, and caramel.
Taste is of the aromas with a slick syrupy flavor. Lots if hoppiness abound. Nice beer.
Mouthfeel is gritty, medium bodied, warming, and pleasant.

First had: on tap at Capone's, Norristown, PA

Poured a cloudy amber color with a compact white head; moderate retention and lacing. All kinds of aromatic hops in the nose (well yeah, look at that hoppage profile), with good doses of citrus and tropical fruit. More hops in the taste up front, orange and grapefruit zest, pithy dryness, pineapple and pine needles; dry herbal finish. Medium mouthfeel, crisp and very nice overall.

As a brewery, Mikkeller must love knuckleheads like myself. I keep on saying I won't continue to buy their largely overpriced, fair at best products, but here I am again....

On tap at Max's today....

The beer pours an orange amber color with pretty good head retention and lacing. On the nose, I get a considerable amount of tropical fruit, with some light underlying orange citrus as well. The flavor profile replicates the nose, with the orange citrus really taking front and center in this beer. There's still a considerable amount of tropical fruit as well, but there's enough hoppy bitterness to counter the sweetness in this beer. The finish is pretty good, with some drying hoppy bitterness, some cardboard flavor, and light alcohol. Mouthfeel is medium bodied at most, with a somewhat thin, fairly dry, bitter finish.

Shrug.... would call this one of the better IPA efforts from Mikkeller, but considering what's available domestically, it's absurd to pay the price necessary to enjoy this beer. This is a decent beer, but given the price tag, there's no way I'll do this again.
