A - Beautiful looking porter. Deep cola pour into a solid black body. Creamy, light khaki cap of foam. Nice retention and ok lace.

S - Rye bread, dark bitter chocolate, molasses, almond, Nutella, touch of cold booze.

T - Smooth and roasty. Dark toast, dark chocolate truffles, bitter herbs, pumpernickel bread, toasted hazelnuts.

M - Medium body, spot on for the style. Smooth, creamy finish.

O - A great porter, one of the better examples of the style.

Thanks to Tauroe for sending this one down! Reviewed from notes. Poured from 16.9 oz. bottle into an Upland pint glass.

A: Very dark brown and opaque. Forms a thin tan creamy head and almost no visible carbonation.

S: Roasted malts, coffee, cacao, a bit creamy, and some sweet maltiness. There's elements here that remind me of amaretto as well.

T: Coffee, lactose creaminess, cacao, and a nutty (almonds? Or almost peanut butter?) flavor at the swallow. Creamy sweet with mild roasted bitterness in the hang.

M: Creamy, heavy body for style. Low carbonation sensation, and alcohol very well-hidden.

O: Wow - this was really pretty damn pleasant. Mikkeller beers are often hit or miss; but this was a hit for sure. Tasty.

Look: dark brown/black chocolate. A thumb high, very solid and consistent foam, brown/caramel color. Low carbonation; good lacing.

Smell: huge roasty, smokey, coffee malt notes. Hint of fresh hop fragrance, a fruity character. Subtle but charming.

Taste: big dark roasted, smokey malt middle then comes a hint of freshness from hops. There's a nice balance of roasted malt and hop flavour. This especially comes to life in the nice bitter coffee/hops aftertaste. The roasted character is not overblown. There are some hints of tart.

Mouthfeel: Very smooth/creamy, medium body. Alcohol well hidden. A nice coating, easy sipper.

Overall: Good representative of a american porter, the hop character with roasted malt make a nice balance, will pick it up again.

look: 3.75 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 4

Appearance: Pours a fudge brown color with a rocky mocha head; not much lacing left behind

Smell: Mocha dominant, with hints of anise, chocolate and vanilla

Taste: Mocha from the get-go, bringing chocolate, coffee, sugar and cream flavors to the fore; by mid-palate, the beer gets a bit roasty, with some anise adding another dimension in the finish; sugary sweetness lingers in the aftertaste

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with low to moderate carbonation

Overall: Although this beer has some age on it and the hops are no longer a factor, the flavors have developed very nicely, thought the sweetness makes finishing the bottle a bit of a challenge

A- Dark brown with faint head that dissapated quickly.

S- Coffee, nutty

T- Strong, coffee, slight alcohol taste

B- Heavy, low carbonation

Overall, nice beer and I think the best from Mikkeler that I have had. It tastes good and given the strength, the alcohol is hidden nicely.

500 ml (1 pint 0.9 fl oz.) bottle, with no apparent bottled on or freshness date present. Found this at a local beer store, and having never tried it before, naturally I decided to get it. My second porter brewed by Mikkeller, the other being Mikkeller Fra Til Via (From To Via).

Poured into a clear balloon snifter glass.

A - Pours two big creamy fingers of dark mocha colored froth on top of an opaque black body. Head thins to a tan ring around the edges of the glass.

S - Smell is of old ice brewed coffee, dark chocolate, and toasted malts. A floral hop aroma in there as well, but subtle. Smells like your typical nice American porter. Maybe a hint of chocolate covered cherries as it warms. Trace amount of booze. A fairly tame, unexciting aroma.

T - Remarkably smooth and creamy, and more full-bodied than a lot of American porters, which I enjoy. Creamy iced coffee roast isn't bitter, toasted malts aren't overdone. Milk chocolate, vanilla, roasted coffee beans, lactose. I could see this being a great breakfast beer. But my god this beer is so creamy and chocolatey and roasty, it's a thing of beauty.

M - Mouthfeel is exceptionally creamy & smooth; goes down way easy for being an 8.00% abv beer. Alcohol is very well hidden, and the carbonation is perfect.

Overall, an outstanding American porter from Mikkeller, in my humble opinion. I would definitely buy more of this if it was more readily available and not as expensive. Definitely a beer I would drink again.
