Bottle from the cellar. 2012 vintage. Into belgian tulip.
Pours a light garnett brown with big fluffy cream colored head that maintains a soapy frothiness and lingers around.
Aroma is deep funk, fruity white wine, lemon, apple peel, bready malts, and. I guess what you would describe as lychee. Definitely get that kumquat citrus character from new belgiums tart lychee.
On the palate you get a band aid like off flavor from the middle to the back of the palate. Besides that some fruity peachiness, light apple juice, old leather funk, doughy malt, and an earthy faint wood.
Mouthfeel is light and slightly fizzy but it feels like it should be a bit more substantial.
The base flavors are all there and pretty tasty except for the band aid off flavor which doesn't detract horribly from the rest of the flavor profile. Problem is nothing POPS. It fades into an old sparkling wine character that leaves you wanting more out of the beer. Don't suspect the two years of age did much to help or hurt this beer.

12.7 fl oz. bottle, with no apparent bottled on date present. Another new beer to me from Mikkeller, I've never had the base beer Mikkeller It's Alive! or any of it's other variants. Acquired on sale at the local Binny's; stoked to have this. Expectations are moderately high since I tend to enjoy Mikkeller beers.
Poured into an over-sized wine glass.
A - Ah yes, pours a nice tall three to four fingers of creamy fluffy tan head on top of a nice burnt sienna orange colored body. Some nice fat fluffy lace.
S - Lots of complexity on the nose in this also. Yeast funk, must, caramel, creamy vanilla, earthy oak wood, cold leather, overripe apple, pear, strawberry, and faint alcohol fumes.
T - Taste follows the nose, although not as strong or as sour as I would have expected. More dry earthiness and wood than tart white wine / champagne. Mild tart, indistinct fruitiness, crisp yeast, caramel, oak wood, earth, and vague tart citrus which I imagine is the lychee.
M - Feel is smooth and creamy, with some faint sugary tartness. Medium bodied with medium carbonation.
Overall, another nicely done beer from Mikkeller, although I can't say how it compares to the original or to the others. Nicely layered and wondrously complex, although I was expecting slightly different results from the white wine barrel aging. I would love to try this again, especially at the nice price point I got it at. Recommended.
