Split a 12.7oz bottle into boulevard tulip

A: pours orange with a slightly redish tinge, less then half a finger of head, little bit of lacing.

S: smells like sweet apple and pear with a nice light white wine aroma in the as well. Smells sweet and fruity.

T: the flavor is a bit on the sweets use but it is cut with some bitter oak... There is a touch of tart belgiany funk in there as well, alon with some earthy grassyness. Green apple , pear, white wine, oak, very complex.

M: very dry on the finish, a bit of creamy carbonation, Slightly slick, medium bodied.

O: this is an interesting beer, glad to have tried it. Not as tart as I expected.... I enjoyed it though.

Appearance: It has a deep merky amber/brown color to it. (Kind of reminds me of a homebrew) It has a nice light beige head that dies down moderately fast and leaves some lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitely give out hints of tart berries & grapes, caramel, oak, chardonnay, lemon and some barnyard funk.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has some tart dark fruit, alot of caramel (more than I thought there would be) oak, chardonnay and some lemony funk.

Mouthfeel: It has a low carbonation with a nice overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied by good flavors and aromas.

A: Pours a hazy amber with a creamy, thick tan head that recedes slowly, yet only leaves a moderate amount of lacing.

S: Strong aromas of caramel, Chardonnay, must, pineapple, papaya, guava, white wine vinegar, unripened grapes, and sea salt are present on the nose.

T: Notes of caramel, cream, biscuit, herbs, and grass are chased by flavors of Chardonnay grape, toasted oak, white wine vinegar, unripened table grapes, sea salt, pickle brine, carambola, papaya, mango, pineapple, and must. The finish is very dry with robust Chardonnay barrel, tropical fruit, and caramel flavors.

M: Medium in body and dryish, especially towards the finish. Carbonation is crisp, firm, and a bit prickly. Alcohol presence is so mellow as to be virtually undetectable, rearing its head only briefly on the fade.

O: I did not care for the regular Funky E Star at all, but I can really appreciate this barrel-aged version. There is a lot going on in this beer.

Bottle, barrel aged tasting at Beltramo's

On the palate, fruity german esters shine through, great carbonation and mouthfeel, with chardonnay notes on a a refreshing finish.

Overall, this has a great structure and a layered complexity, very enjoyable. This is the best marriage of wine and beer I've come across, and I wish it were a regular offering as it's the ideal beer to serve to "wine only" drinkers.

Amber-colored pour with an off-white head. Pretty much completely translucent, great head retention and some lace left. Surprising amount of funk from the nose, lots of oak, white grape, lemon, bretty pineapples. Sweet caramel malts and bread there as well.

Taste follows mostly but is a bit sweeter. Oak and chardonnay are there but toned down, showcasing more of a brett+malt presence. Definitely tropical bretty fruits, caramel, bread, honey at the forefront. The mouthfeel is big and malty with lowish carbonation. Some alcohol heat but not bad.

Really mixes BSPA and wild ale elements pretty well, though I feel maybe the base beer (with no 'wild' or barrel elements) might be lacking otherwise. But this was quite enjoyable. 375ml solo wasn't much of a problem.

This beer is a semiopaque/semitransparent dark yellow, not hazy but thick in its own way. It develops a pillowy sort of eggshell-colored head that rises to one finger high and displays solid retention while leaving patchy and leggy lace behind it.
The nose is sour, tart and funky, a little sharp with vague band-aid notes pointing to the yeast. A little bit of honey-like softness is detectable against all the stronger notes. It's just a little spicy with a green apple and lemon sort of juiciness.
The flavor brings out the funk, not so heavy as to overshadow the softer notes that add to the complexity. Green apple tartness, bright and clean, is a main component. Skill with barreling is shown as some nice white wine character comes out in a familiar clean, bright juicy/vinous/mineral combination. It's semi-dry, leaning a little dry as woods come alongside.
It's semi-dry in feel as well as flavor with not shale but a light mineral touch. The body, while bright, reaches medium. It's crisp, a nice nip continuing to the end, but nicely smooth as well while a moderate carbonation keeps it lively.
