Pours a dark reddish brown. The beer isn't quite black in the middle, and there's a fair border of color around the edges. Smallish beige head, lots of small bubbles. The aroma has an interesting blend of citrus bite and chocolate and roasted malt flavors. It's just a bit simple, and the citrus is a little too astringent. The underlying porter is rather gentle and sweet, and the harsher citrus doesn't quite work against it. The same issues exist in the taste, though you get more porter flavor, which is a plus. The beer smells and tastes more like limes than oranges. I can't quite speak to yuzu flavor, which I have tried but not for some time. At any rate, it's actually growing on me quite a bit as the beer warms. However, this is a beer that you really need to smell and taste at the same time. The delicacy of the citrus comes out more in the aroma and the complexity of the porter shines in the taste. Mikkeller makes excellent porters/stouts, and the base beer here is no different. Lots of chocolate, some pleasant coffee notes, solid roast and a sweet caramel background. Finish is all citrus and chocolate, like a chocolate orange slice. Mouthfeel is rather gentle. Soft little bubbles. At first, it seemed a bit crisp and light, but I think that's just the citrus flavor playing tricks on my palate. This is an interesting beer. At first, I was ready to give it a lower rating, but this beer works quite well as a package. On their own, the aroma and taste aren't particularly impressive. It's when the two are allowed to blend that this beer reaches its potential. That said, I would be interested to try a similar combination of flavors in a stronger beer. I would definitely buy an imperial version of this beer.

"Best by 11/24/18"; drank 6/1/16 @ the Yarchives.

Opaque black/brown appearance.

A rough pour yielded a HUGE dark tan head (careful pouring!); a curtain of lace.

Orange citrus, medium roast coffee bean & milk chocolate notes in the nose.

Medium thick mouthfeel.

Dry orange peel & fresh earth flavors up front; faint medium roast coffee bean notes on the finish.

Dry & fruity; a decent black IPA but not one to convert the non-believers (and certainly not a porter).

Dark brown color where light cannot pass the edge. Lasting, but small head. Excellent lattice of lace.

Sweet cocoa start to the aroma. There's a lighter blackberry and alcohol presence.

This is predominantly a Porter but there are fascinating twists to the tongue. First, I get some cream to the flavor. Second, I do NOT get any real orange flavor. Third, while the body is thin with a higher than normal effervescence, the flavor is so rich that one may never notice. The finish is like milk chocolate but never does this brew come across as sweet.

If you're looking for a citrusy beer, this is not the beer for you. Yuzu and orange notes were lost on me tbh. Weak bodied coffee forward with bitter earthy notes.

This one pours a fairly dark black, with a small head, and not much lacing.

This smells like generic heavy roasted malt, and not much else.

I get mostly dark bitter malt in the taste as well, with some light coffee, and a bit of orange. I expected this to pop more, but there just isn't much going on here.

This is light bodied, kind of thin, with a good drinkability.

This is a bit of a miss from Mikkeller. It's definitely drinkable and I didn't hate it, it just didn't do much interesting.

Pitch black. Slight tan smokey white head with no lasting legs.

Beautiful malty, orange and vanilla sweetness in the aroma. Loved the way this brew smells.

Flavors were exactly what the nose was only muted moreso than the smell. Still crisp and refreshing, earthy, malty orange flavor that was well defined but not as intense as I wanted.

Great carbonation, smooth mouth feel, and 100% drink ability. Great Porter.

Drank at Café Académico, Coimbra.

A: The body is pitch black. The head looks really great with a brown colored foam, one finger thick. Lots of lacing.
S: The aroma is filled with coffee, roasted malts and just a slight hint of alcohol. Simply put, it's amazing.
T: Know the infinite symbol or the moebius stripe? The taste on this beer resembles that. There's sweet tones, coming from the malts, then less sweet tones and a bit more bitter, but veeeeery soft - coffee, then there's a bit of bitterness - citrus, but then again, citrus brings a bit of sweetness to the beer. This complexity on the taste is so interesting.
M: The mouthfeel is very fluffy with high density. The amount of carbonation is way beyond perfection. It's spot on.
O: I don't know what to say. Maybe I have a thing for stouts/porters from Mikkeller.

A unique Porter in both aroma and flavor. Dark, bitter chocolate with odd notes of clove, anise, orange liquer, and honeydew. An interesting idea for a beer with such a dark, roasted malt profile...just not quite harmonious and balanced.

Pours an opaque dark brown with brown, finely-bubbled head. A: Musty orange, pineapple, stale chocolate, vague hints of plum or fig, dark cherry, and dank bakery.
Each taste goes through an evolution. Bright citrus fades to semi-bitter dark chocolate eventually ending with some kind of wormwood or earthen bitterness. Above average carbonation helps elevate the drinkability in an otherwise rich and complex porter.

33cl bottle. Dark brown pour with a tall lively beige head. Smells like roasted malts, citrus and pine hops and dark chocolate. The taste follows the same note, with an addition of orange or grapefruit, and some soy sauce. Medium body and a high carbonation.
