(Based on a 2015 bottle) It’s deep ruby (almost deep purple, black), crimson color. The foam is thin but fine. It smells like a red wine in oak barrel, fleshy cherry, charred oak smoky. The beer starts with light tart and sweet, it’s very light in flavor, but leaves a very tight and bold mouth feeling. The sweet tart flavor fades to tart and light bitter, feels dry, with a hint of salty. The beer shows a salted tart cherry, it’s quite dry for a Kriek. The beer shows cabinet Sauvignon red wine (bold and jammy), Merlot (dry and tart) wine, Dark sweet cherry (like those late mature Washington cherry), Myrica rubra (杨梅), raspberry, gooseberry, malt vinegar, toasted oaky, it’s very fruity and wine-alike. There’s also some apricot jam, dried plum and dried fig aromas. It’s not funky, but it’s a lot like wine, but compares to wine it’s very low in acidity. It’s also low in acidity compares to Kriek or a sour blond. But I like it in this way, feels like a book of time, plain but deep. This beer ages so well, I like the mellow, low acidity, vivid in fruity, with a lingering of bitter. The beer’s appearance is very clear, in my first pour it’s free from sediments. It’s more wine than a wine to me, super elegant, full of oaky wooden aromas in aftertaste. If there’s a wine elegant like this, without that high acidity I will definitely get it.
I think I have Spontan Cherry Frederiksdal years ago when it’s younger, it’s much sweeter back then. I don’t like very sweet Kriek. But after 7 years, this one feels perfect. Surprisingly like other Belgian beers, the fruitless just won’t fade. Currently level of acidity is like a plain yogurt, and sweet level probably is like 2g of sugar in a cup of coffee (just a hint of sugar). Oh, my, tasting this beer is so fun and satisfactory. (But you need to wait patiently for it matures, dry.)

Now that’s an aroma. Strong without being pungent, there's just loads of sour cherry now in the air. This happened because a green bottle gave up its contents of 12.7 fluid ounces to a clear glass liter mug. In such a wide open vessel, plenty of it is exposed to the nose and it smells wonderful. On top is a lovely rose-violet colored head that seems to be enduring. Beneath that lies a very dark and opaque purple liquid that's fairly bright in its sheen. The early mouthfeel is spot on, with a good body to it and just the right amount of carbonation. The taste is such a nicely tart cherry at the onset. However, the oak barrel tannins take over during the finish to disrupt what was a delicate balance of tartness, malt and cherry. Certainly, the barrel aging adds to the body and complexity of this brew's taste. So, the complaint about the strong presence of tannins during the finish is a minor one. No glass lacing equals no problem here. No, the head didn't make it through a relatively quick drain of this deliciousness. It goes down so quickly that the barely noticeable ABV could hit hard. This was so worth the try.

Rerate, 375 ml green bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 8.2%. Very deep red colour, moderate pink to purple head. Aroma and taste much like upon first sample. Impressive beer.
375 ml green bottle, kindly shared by our beerpal Ole Anders. Impressive deep, deep red colour, purple head. Unusual aroma of red fruits, marzipan and bitter almonds, also some milky/yoghurt notes. Sour and fairly complex flavour of various red fruits, cherry kernels and almonds.

Opened on 1-14-20 and poured into a flute.
A: Deep cherry red, almost burgundy. Crimson highlights around the edges. Thin head that quickly fades, leaving minimal lacing on the glass.
S: Metallic at first, but gives way to fresh cherry - the dark sweet variety you get at the grocery store and eat on a hot summer night. No perceptible lactic acidity, brett funk or oak.
T: All cherry, a combination of sweet and tart that leans more towards the sweet - such as bing or rainier. Some lactic acidity comes through the finish. Possibly some malic as well, if it wasn't converted to lactic acid by bacteria.
M: Medium carbonation. Thin body backed by some tannic astringency, either from fruit skins or oak. Leaves the palate dry.
O: A bit one dimensional - misses the mark for fruited lambic. Enjoyable for what it is, especially if you're in the mood for a very cherry beer.

Dark blood red with a pastel purple head that fizzles out to a denser foam collar.
Luscious Frederiksdal cherry--like luxardo but maybe a little more delicate and herbal--just explodes with an incredibly delicious expression. It really is delicious. The beer is simple, but perfectly made, especially for a spontaneous brew. There's very little funk and a perfect acidity, all allowing for the cherry to be the star. It even has a sort of Gushers or blackberry note to it, but really it's that character that only Frederiksdal and Luxardo bring to the table.
The medium-light body has a heft and roundness to it even while being on the lighter end. It's also lightly prickly, with a mildly woody tartness, slightly stinging as it goes down into a semi-dry finish that brings with it a hint of char.

2015 vintage.
This one pours a dark and vivid reddish color - it looks pretty beautiful. There's a small head, and a little bit of lacing.
This smells supremely jammy, with the obvious cherry, but a big raspberry and strawberry type flavor as well, seedy and dark, with some nuttiness and acidity as well.
Frederiksdal cherries are some of the absolute best in the world, they have such a dark and jammy flavor to it, and remind me of a cross between cherry, raspberry, and strawberry. There's a lot of oak and nuttiness here, too, along with a prickly and slightly vinegary funk.
This has a rich and fairly thick body for the style, with a moderate level of acidity, and a very good level of drinkability.
This is easily one of the best entries in this series. It aged remarkably well.
