From a 375 ml bottle (2013 vintage) to a tulip.

A-This beer is quite dark purple...nearly opaque and inky looking. The head is fizzy and tall at first but fades pretty quickly to a collar. The foam is a dark violet color. Pretty stuff.

S-This is one of the most densely fruited beers I have ever sniffed. Lots of juicy cherry, some red grape, and a mild hit of acidity. It is vinous with just a hint of vanilla from the oak. The cherry really dominates.

T-The taste follows the smell closely. Big, juicy, dense cherry flavors are muted only slightly by a mild acidity. The oak imparts a bit of vanilla and some tannins that suggest a red wine, but this thing is pretty jammy, not a sour/funk bomb.

M-The feel is heavy and almost syrupy at times, especially for the style. Carbonation is medium to milder in strength.

O-Having had some of the other Spontan-beers, I was expecting more of the same with big tartness and some fruit. This beer was the exact opposite, i.e., big fruit and only a hint of acidity. It mostly works, especially as a dessert beer, but the beer might be a little syrupy and fruity/sweet for some palates. Extra points for being good looking stuff.

This is an unusual looking beer. It pours a thick deep garnet red with a fluffy pink head. Lots of tart cherries, oaky, a little acidic, funk and a touch of vanilla. Crisp with a dry finish.

oh my goodness this is good! like nothing else ive had. its blood red and thick in texture. there is a pretty active red head on top too. the beer is so dense and dark red, never seen one quite this ruby deep and quite intimidating. looks like cherry syrup. the nose is more red wine than anything else. tart and tannic, some lactic acidity too. the fruit is as big as ive ever seen cherries in a beer. in fact, this is ten times more cherry heavy than even the original spontancherry. the cherries are red and ripe and just bursting through the beer, certainly at the expense of any grain or hop character at all. its all fruit, with just a bit of pucker. more juicy than beery, but in a good way. carbonation is really uplifting in a real thick brew, and the alcohol is barely detectable. just blown away how packed in the cherry flavor is, its truly incredible. the acidity cleans up the sweetness that would otherwise be there, and im left with a dry palate loaded with cherry aftertaste. i cant get past it, it transcends what i thought i knew about fruit beer, and is a must try for any fruit beer fan. its next level stuff no doubt.
