A: The beer is very hazy yellowish amber in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high off white head that died down a little and consistently left a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface.
S: Moderate to strong aromas of funk are present in the nose.
T: Like the smell, the taste starts out as being funky and has notes of Grand Marnier towards the finish.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is quite funky, particularly in the smell. The cognac only makes an appearance in the latter portion of the taste, helping to balance out the horse blanket flavors, and lingers a little through the finish.

12.7 ounce bottle. Served in a tulip, the beer pours a hazy orange amber color with an inch and a half off-white head that sticks around for a long time. There's also a good amount of lacing. Aroma is nice but light, it smells like oranges/orange peel, vanilla, oak and some pears. Taste is pretty much just like the aroma, but there's also the addition of some bready malt and some earthiness. There's more bitterness to this brew than I expected. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's a bit creamy with a good amount of carbonation. I think this is a decent brew, but I don't think it's worth the $16.99 price tag at all. Still, it was nice to try once.

Picked it up in July at a plea in Boulder, Colorado. Really couldn't resist a try. I never would have imagined Grande Marnier.

Flows from the bottle a very nice orangey copper sort of a color. Maybe similar to raw honey with a slightly off white, crispy head. Looks just as I would expect, distant and uneven long lacing.

The smell is fantastic, very inviting. It has that wild ale sort of smell to it, that funk. But also you can really pick up the wood of the barrel easily and all the booze in this nice bouquet of citrus and minerals. Unfortunately it has this sort of astringency to the nose a bit.

Astringency pulls through into the beer and really clamors it up. At first it is almost harsh, luckily as it warms up it blends in a bit but is still very apparent. It is boozy with the astringency of the liqueur alcohol and citrus rind sort of deal going on. This beer really sopped up all the flavor that was in the barrel. Retains a lot of white pepper spice which aids the heat of the booze well. Has a touch of dry vanilla with the wood character, a heavy mineral sort of thing going on as well. Or maybe this is just a combination of the flavors intermingling. Pummeling citrus rind sort of bitterness. There is this straight sugar kind of sweetness hitting near the back end of this beer as well that is scoured off by the dryness and the grapefruit/orange/lemon peel bitterness. Has an overall, overhanging light funk that I really enjoy about wild ales.

Mouthfeel is okay, but the astringent alcohol dryness is a bit bothersome. Well, quite bothersome. Though it is light on the palate as I expected it would be. Almost crunchy... crisp and breathy.

Overall, an interesting expedition. I was glad to have tried it for the sole purpose to see what Grande Marnier would do to a beer. I wasn't crazy about it, it was a bit of a punch, it was certainly wild. But going out to buy this again to drink it out of enjoyment, I won't. I enjoy most everything Mikkeller does even when it isn;t quite what I expected. I enjoyed this, but mainly for reasons of interest.

A - Pours a hazy copper orange juice color with a nice dense finger of tan head, great retention and lacing.

S - Funky belgian/refreshing brett type aromas, some definite sourness (with horseradish - i often associate certain sour flavors with horseradish, I dont know why)

T - Dry tart brett type flavors. Grandma makes an appearance only at the finish/aftertaste. Not really sour at all.

M - Incredibly light dry and refreshing, decent carbonation, lighter bodied.

O - Very tasty but not at all sour and not really getting much of a grandma influence.
