I removed the wire cage on top of the cork and intended to let the beer warm up just a touch after spending some time in my ice-cold beer fridge ... Lo and behold, the cork popped right off of its own accord, ricocheting off my 10-foot tall bookshelf and sending the cat running for cover. Its alive indeed. (Quickly) poured the beer into a tulip glass. A cloudy yellow-orange brew with a tremendous white head that settles out but maintains its form rather well. Mikkel always nails this aspect of the presentation. Aroma is huge Brettanomyces initially, with some fruit, candy, and floral elements revealing themselves if you go looking. The aroma is much appreciated by this intrepid drinker, tons of horse blanket/barnyard character that is well-complimented by sweet orchard and citrus fruits, herbs, and corn flakes. The bottle will still smell great the next morning (and afternoon). Palate reminds me of Rayon Vert, albeit more complex and perhaps less bitter. Then again, this is a DRY beer despite the array of flavors present. I catalog lavender, lemon rind, soap, wine gums, green banana, faint orange, almost salty seaweed or iodine, lime, peaches, shortbread ... Stays quite bitter and soapy throughout but manages to captivate via a whole array of fruit and flower flavors riding atop the omnipresent brett. Bone dry but aromatic finish. Moderately thick body a lot like an IPA, and indeed, this beer recalls this style to some extent: Dry hopped with leather rather than hop cones alone. This is a clear cut win from Mikkeller and Anchorage, a potent sour that recalls Orval and family but with a decidedly American twist. Worth the lofty price point.

Opened with a resounding POP! Cork hit the 11 foot high ceiling, luckily I lost no beer! Pours an effervescent honey color with 4+ fingers of eggshell colored head. Crazy lacing & great head retention

S: Much sourness, wet hay, pepper & funk

T: Pears, honeycrisp apples, grassiness, tartness & sourness up front. Slight acidic notes as this warms, Fuji apples, & sourness with a little pink grapefruit. Finishes tart, grassy, & sour with some pears & a little bit of plum

MF: Super lively carbonation, dryness, light body, especially for the ABV, reminds me of sparkling cider or Champagne. I love the way the sweet balances the tart & sourness

Wow! This is easy to drink. Not the best sour I've ever had, but right up there with them. Pricey, but worth it IMO. I usually don't say that about most Mikkeller beers. Approach with caution though seems to be very much alive

A-Cloudy golden pour with a super bubbly white head that diminishes rather quickly leaving virtually no lacing.

S- This smells pretty funky..you pick up on the wild yeast as soon as your nose gets close to the glass. This is very floral, with faint bready malts and hints of citrus.

T- Taste follows the nose for the most part. Initially my palate was overwhelmed by the brettnomyces funk....almost musty. The taste became more floral with every sip, grapefruit is there as well with those bready malts.

M- This thang is carbonated! Light crisp and refreshing, and bubbly as can be.

O-I enjoyed this, but this will probably a one and done for me. A fun, funky, intriguing drink for an occasion.

Caged and corked bottle served in a Prairie Teku

A - Glowing burnt orange with a big bubbles on top creating a wet head.

S - Bright funky Brett, tropical fruits galore, juicy fruit gum, bananas, stone fruit, peppery, old basement funk, antique furniture, funky cheese, lemons, pears, peaches, apricots, honeydew melon, bready pale malts come out when swirled.

T - Citrus pith bitterness, lemons, astringent grapefruit, honeydew melon, cantaloupe, oranges, grassy pine, funky wet hay, the bitterness is chalky but turns peppery as it warms. Bready pale malts lie underneath the onslaught of funky fruit. The finish is very dry and peppery.

M - Aggressive carbonation, light wet body but finishes super dry.

Bright and funky with Brett dominating the aroma and flavor spectrum. Funky tropical fruit with peppery bitterness. The aroma is amazing ! I could smell this beer all day. Gets better as it warms. If you're a fan of funk this beer is for you.

It's dir-tay! Smells like the good soil beneath us, and tastes like a drier version. That's being said, shit's the bomb. It's got the Anchorage yeastie pizzaz going on which I love so much. Not sure what Mikkeller had to contribute to it, but I'm sure he opened a valve or something. Sexy nom nom.

750 ml bottle. Pours hazy orange amber with a monstrous white head that continuous to grow for a while and eventually leaves some lacing.

The aroma is lots of brett - earthy, tropical fruit, and funk.

The flavor is lots of earthy acidic brett with some tropical fruits and a decent bitter finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and a little watery.

Overall, a great brett beer.

A: Pours a slightly hazy golden orange with a thick, billowing white head. The amount of lacing left behind as the head recedes is considerable.

S: Scents of must, minerals, pineapple, papaya, guava, carambola, lemon, lime, chalk, biscuit, and caramel are present on the nose with slight herbal undertones becoming more noticeable as the beer warms.

T: Flavors of lemon, lime, papaya, pineapple, guava, carambola, grass, and herbs are balanced by notes of chalk, minerals, must, caramel, biscuit, crackers, and woody spices. The finish is fruity, musty, and very dry with a complex of oaky, lactic flavors underscored by a mélange of tropical fruits and faint herbs.

M: On the lighter side of medium and very, very dry. Carbonation is intense and forceful.

O: A nice, complex strong ale. There is a lot going on here and a lot to like. It seems that Mikkel refines his approach to wild ales every year with impressive results. I cannot wait to see where he goes with this style in years to come.

A: pale amber haze under a tan foam head as big as you want it; lacing left behind

S: rich fields of grain and musky barnyard funk; earthy herbs and faint faded pine

T: pale washed out orchard fruits, slightly spiced, and heart barley malts with dry cracker notations support that wet barnyard blanket of brettanomyces dankness

M: slight chew and body, maybe medium weight; smooth and soft, some carbonated fuzz

O: a well-crafted ale, bring together barnyard and wild styles into a nicely balanced brew, represented in equal parts by its malt, hops, and yeast bill. Hearty and robust, rustic and complex, well-balanced and funky. Recommended.

(4.25) A: Cloudy peachy-copper with a huge bubbly and creamy stark white head. The cork nearly released itself (should have seen that coming). Long lasting retention and big patches of lacing are evident.

(4.0) S: Juicy pineapple, fresh grapefruit, damp pine, some mint (on the back end), toffee, and a fair amount of spice. This has a real fresh and enticing aroma with an interesting mix of fruity qualities.

(4.25) T: Grapefruit pith, lemons, white grape, some pine, faint mint, spices, and crackery backbone. Flavourful with a great mix of fresh tasting fruits (grapefruit, lemons, white grape) and complimentary spices/mint. Alcohol very well hidden. Moderately bitter with an intensely dry finish.

(4.0) M: Medium bodied with a lively carbonation. Pleasantly oily with a bit of a resin-like quality.

(4.25) D: This is excellent and a solid all-around wild ale. Maybe even worth almost losing an eye to an explosive cork, and probably worth the Mikkeller premium in this case.
