Another single hop Mikkeller adopted from the Co-op liquor store, this one featuring a German flavor hop that is said to resemble its parent Cascade, except "fruitier and more herbal" (Hieronymus, 2012). At least in this brew, the description is quite apt. This one is notably lighter than many other Mikkeller single hop IPAs, a cloudy banana yellow with a large whitish head that shows great retention. Aroma is very sweet and citric, with grape candy, bubblegum, tangerine, brown sugar, and maybe hints of grapefruit and lemon putting in appearances. The palate is also quite unique. Here, some of the grape recedes into the background (some but not all), replaced by strong tangerine, lemon, and lime accompanied by an earthy herbal "forest floor" or nettle note that is almost English in character. Less sweet and malty than expected and one might wonder if there are a few squirts of lemon juice in this sucker. Tart and acidic, with this sour note persisting right through into the dryish herbal finish. Moderate "semi-chewy" body with considerable carbonation, the latter working to accentuate the citric character. See if you can snag a bottle of Mikkeller Cascade and do a direct comparison.

Served in a footed glass at Mikkeller bar in SF.

"Europe's answer to Nelson." It's hazy with light head. Smells sweet and orangey. I can see the name. The taste is less impressive. Less fruit than pine. Astringently bitter, which I actually enjoy. The endtaste is flamed orange peel. Interesting. Nice. Tentatively recommended.

330ml bottle. More of that weird hop-cone meets chunky yeast cell imagery that Mikkeller seems overly taken with at this point in time.

This beer pours a rather hazy medium golden straw colour, with a teeming tower of densely puffy, bulgingly foamy white head, which leaves a nicely thorough bleeding band of honeycombed lace around the glass as it slowly ebbs away.

It smells of sweet, sugary orange and grapefruit citrus, at touch of overripe pineapple, some grape soda quasi-fruitiness, mildly saccharine pale grainy malt, and a skulking musty bitterness. Weird but good, in its appeal to my 7-year old self. The taste is more of the same - somewhat bitter and cheeky citrus pith, fruity white grape juice, understated bready pale malt, and a rising, yet still underwhelming earthy, leafy hop bitterness.

The carbonation is fairly fizzy, yet still apparently supportive, the body medium-light in weight, and barely capable in its attempt at smoothness. It finishes off-dry, the muddled citrus fruitiness of this rather complex hop hardly a point of apology - the underlying malt seems eternally thankful all the same.

A tasty enough single-hop affair, one worthy of further investigation, as it seems capable of holding this whole beer together. Add in the hints of candy goodness from my youth, and we have a bit of a pandering roue here.

330ml bottle poured into tulip 24/6/13

A light color almost straw yellow, quite hazy lots of bubbles feeding a massive bone white head that's still there at the bottom on my glass in the form of an island leaving a few random patches along the way

S lots of purple candy, pineapple and mango with some grassy notes, faint grains and earthy notes with just a little lemon rind, reminds me of fruit roll ups

T not far off the smell but a little toned down with some yeast I didn't smell, perhaps a little more rind then the nose

M a little thin but the bubbles cream it up fairly well, fruity, rind finish lingers

O looks and smells great but didn't quite maintain that level in other areas, pretty solid though overall and a little different

reminds me of my childhood with lots of fruit leather junk food and grape candy, worth a try for sure as it displays this interesting new hop
