11.2oz bottle poured into a Throwback snifter.
A - Pours a pitch black color with practically no light making any penetration into the body. No real head formation, but a thick dark tan collar forms and manages to leave sparse lacing on the glass.
S - No mistaking it...there is a ton of vanilla in here. Alcohol wafts out of the sea of vanilla giving an almost vanilla extract quality to it. Really great, sweet and smooth vanilla...not much else. A faint coffee-ish aroma makes its way thru the vanilla barely and is hard to place exactly as coffee. I also get a really mild, cool and almost minty aroma too. Liquid dessert for sure.
T - Wow...very nice! Far more coffee penetrates into the flavor and takes a firm leading role. Fudgy, chocolatey flavors are rich against the coffee. Vanilla comes in equally strong creating a three way combo of perhaps the worlds 3 greatest flavors - coffee, chocolate, vanilla. Throw in a light caramelly, brown sugary sweetness and the combination of flavors is complete. I've had some liquid candy bars before, but this one makes a strong case for being the best representation I've ever had.
M - Sweet, smooth vanilla, rich fudgy chocolate and dark roasted and bitter coffee...extremely smooth overall. Boozy in the aroma, but hidden rather well in the flavor and feel...only a mild warmth hits the back of the throat on each swallow. Thick and full bodied, rather syrupy in texture. Carbonation is at a lower level...just enough to breathe some life into the beer and present a mild tingle.
O - When I saw the name Vanilla Shake, I had high hopes for this...vanilla laden imperial stout just sounds like a perfect libation...and it lives up to expectations nicely. Really great dessert beer. Could drink a lot of this v ery easily. Will be looking for this one again.

Draft @ Mikkeller Bar
Black body with a light brown head. Leaves some lace and brown film when swirled.
Tons of coffee, vanilla, and chocolate on this thing. I get a little fruitiness in there as well on the taste. Man, so much coffee goodness in here. Def comes through better than in the BA version. The load of vanilla and chocolate balances out the coffee though.

A-Pours laughably thick. Pen ink. Zero light penetration. It sits like oil in the glass and leaves alcohol legs. It also spawns a dark brown, doughy head that settles down to a finger's width. It leaves brow freckles and scars along the glass.
S-Smells like fudge and cocoa powder and nibs. The vanilla is impressively potent. Genuine vanilla, nearly like vanilla extract. Burnt maltiness, black coffee and pure roast. Vanilla and fudge are impressive here.
T-The brownie and fudge melts over the tongue. Then comes the French vanilla ice cream flavor. Dark roast coffee with espresso as well. Bitter roast and burnt oats on the finish but much sweeter than bitter overall. A little bit nutty. Finish is vanilla, espresso and liquified chocolate.
M-Chewy, oily, decadent. Perfect amount of heat. Ultra creamy. Body is huge. Softer carbonation. Lingering flavors.
O-Rich, ooey-gooey. A full-force flavor delivery system in a bottle. Something that Mayan kings would get drunk off. I split the 12 oz. bottle and could see this being taken down alone could become a bit of a chore but one I would gladly participate in.

12 oz bottle courtesy of fthomasl pours a very viscous black with a small cap of mocha head. Average retention and lace.
Nose is coffee, chocolate, black licorice, herbal hops and alcohol...kind of a strange brew of everything thrown together. Kind of a mess, really. And where the fuck is the vanilla?
Tastes like old Folger's coffee grounds mixed with vodka. Ugh, maybe this is a bad bottle? I dont know but whatever it is is not working right. The viscosity would be appreciated if there was some good flavors here, but this is just a complete mess.
