Poured from a 33cL bottle into a brandy snifter.

A: Pitch-black and viscous with no head until the very end, when a mocha-dark half-head forms. Opaque. Heavy lacing.

S: The vanilla is strong and excellent and welcome. Strong boozy undercurrents hint at bourbon and/or chocolate. I love this.

T: The taste is thick cocoa, obvious vanilla, light booze, moderate roasted malt, milk chocoalte, and nutty coffee. A distant metallic character, especially on the distant aftertaste that may just be bitterness.

M: Thick as a milkshake. Damn. I have never felt anything quite like this.

O: A wonderful beer that is so oppressively thick and flavorful as to be almost overwhelming. It's not one-dimensional, but it batters the tastebuds into submission.

Paired with Theo dark chocolate (enrichens the beer), coffee dark chocolate (makes the beer taste more boozy and the chocolate more sweet), and coconut curry milk chocolate (amazing chocolate, overpowers even this beer).

P: 12 fl oz bottle in to a DFH tulip

A: SRM is black. Opaque. Head is brown/chocolate, 1 in, dissipates to cover the top of the beer. Medium lacing. Medium carbonation.

S: Vanilla dominates the nose, but also dark roast malt, coffee, toffee.

T: Vanilla quickly followed up by big dark roast malt, chocolate, coffee. Slight alcohol burn, but it is 13%. Aftertaste is dark roast malt and vanilla.

M: Full body, viscous. Vanilla adds complexity to body. Slightly wet finish.

O: Mikkeller knows how to do the dark stuff for sure. This is great. Vanilla in this is so tasty, but not overdone. This is one of the Mikkeller beers I don't feel so bad about paying $10 for a bottle.

A: Pours an opaque black with a small amount of light brown head. Just a ring around the edge of the glass retains, leaving minor lacing.

S: Deeply and richly sweet vanilla and malt, with a touch of roasted nuts.

T: Continues to be deeply rich and sweet, with an overwhelming vanilla note. The finish is slightly dry. There's a strong low boozy note throughout as well.

M: Full body, low carbonation.

Overall, really good. Strong, boozy, and sweet, but still drinkable and very tasty.

12 oz bottle poured into a Darkness glass at cellar temp.

Pours a motor-oil black body with a dark tan/head, great retention and lacing.

Smell is VERY vanilla-forward, with strong chocolate notes, milk sugar, a lot of sweetness from malts and vanilla, not a lot of roast in the nose, smells like a chocolate cupcake with vanilla icing.

Taste Is very vanilla forward, a lot of chocolate, some coffee, some roasty bitterness and acidity balances this a bit, cloyingly sweet, dry finish. Very little alcohol presence, maybe a slight burn on the end, hard to believe this is 13% ABV.

Mouthfeel is thick and syrupy, low carbonation, heavy, smooth, really nice sipper.

Overall, stay away if you don't like vanilla. If you do, this is a must try. Buy, trade, do whatever it takes. This is a dessert beer and an absolute treat.
