From notes: Visited a while ago while backpacking with a friend.
After checking in to our hostel, we biked here on the way to the cliffs of Moher. Grabbed a lunch and was really impressed by this quaint pub. Since it's in the middle of nowhere. selection is what it is. Grabbed a Smithwicks as did my friend. My soup & sandwich was delicious and my friend had the roasted chicken. There was a place set up for music though they weren't playing at that moment. Waitress was very friendly and helpful. A nice pit stop on the way to the cliffs.

Oh my gosh! Amazing place!
The ColoradoBobs family were in Doolin for three days in June, 2005. Though the place only has about 700 residents, Doolin is THE CENTER of Irish folk music. McDermotts is a music-pub: for the price of a hand-drawn Guinness (the bar-maid drew a little four-leaf clover in the head with a dribble from the tap, and it stayed there to the bottom of the pint!), I sat 15 feet from the finest fiddle player I've ever seen while she and her band wailed away at some incredible music for a couple of hours. No cover charge. You just better have your seat by 9:00, 'cause it's close-to-your-neighbor standing room only until the first set is done an hour later.
As to the beer, Guinness rules supreme, and I'm convinced it's a completely different brew on draw there than in a bottle here. There was plenty of Fullers, Budweiser, and several other lesser known on draw, with a pretty good selection of bottles and cans, including some German and English beers.
If you're ever in Ireland, this place is a must. The Cliffs of Moher are just a couple miles away, and the Aran Islands are a 30 minute ferry ride out into the Atlantic. Simply the most heart-breakingly astonishing scenery you can imagine. And the music, atmosphere and service in McDermotts are utterly unparalleled. You gotta go!
