Tap @ Solana, brewed at Carlsbad. Pours dark brown with a short tan head. Nuts, brown sugar, and banana in the nose. Smooth mouthfeel. Toasted bread, banana, and walnuts throughout with molasses flavors popping up from time to time. Interesting, kind of a dunkel and brown ale blend.

A: The beer pours a chestnut sort of color with a big off-white head to go with it.
S: A fairly roast heavy dunkelweizen with a big emphasis on caramel and nutty toffee. There is a moderate amount of spice, such as clove, with a bit of banana and some dark fruit and molasses notes.
T: The banana sweetness is nice on the palate, but as the beer warms up, the roast, molasses, and nuttiness really start to come through. Toffee and caramel provide additional sweetness and there's a mild spice character.
M: The body is medium and the carbonation is on the higher end of medium.
D: Not as good as the hefeweizen, but a good German style beer.

Rich, medium-bodied, and grandly flavored brew. On the sweet side, with loads of malt and perfumey, estery flavors. Modest head on the dark brown hazy brew. Served in the usual pint shaker.
Zingy and a little odd. Why does it taste like coffee? Dark roasted malt with the usual German esters, though not quite as fruity as a Hefeweizen. A little sharp. Modest aroma.
Very clean and drinkable. It just seems to be a collision between an Irish Stout and a Hefeweizen. On tap at the OB location. The board said ABV is 5.2%, and the printed list said 6.4%.

On tap at Beachwood BBQ & Brewing in Long Beach, CA.
Pours an opaque super dark brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a small cap on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of roasted and toasted malt, wheat, caramel, and burnt grains. Taste is much the same with a slight tartness. There is a medium amount of roasty and medicinal bitterness on the palate after each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is an average beer that has way too much roasted and toasted characteristics for the style in my opinion.

On tap at solano beach PP
Poured a very dark brown in color with brown highlights when held up to the light that had a thin head and left a little lacing sticking to the glass. Lots of nuttiness upfront on the nose with molasses, brown sugar, and toffee but had good sweetness from the malts. The taste was also big on the nutty flavors but the molasses was more apperent on the palate with brown sugar toffee accents and had a good sweet malty balance. The brew was medium in body with a moderate amount of carbonation which had a sweet, nutty, malty, and slight creamy finish. Actually was one of my favorite from the solano beach location was even better paired with some pizza.

A- cloudy unfiltered brown color that has a gold tint at the bottom where the light comes through. !/4" off white head. Left the same off white color lace on glass as the down was leaving the glass and entering my belly.
S- Is Banana a good enough description. Strong sweet smell of banana, but not so much just the fruit but the sugar that is in it. Some roasted malt scents in their as well, faint however. More evident as the brew warms.
T- no suprise that the banana is the dominant flavor. Has some sugary sweetness to it, not overpowering, i guess you could say just right.. Strong and tasty roasted flavor emerges as the brew's temperature increases.
M- obviously carbonated, had a severe tickle with a colder temperature. A nice surprise was that this dark german wheat ale is not as dry as its lighter colored brother.
D- I'd say this was an enjoyable above average wheat ale until that roasted flavor came in, than it was great. Every other wheat ale i have had has made me wanna not try another, this one definetly breaks my stereotype.
