On tap at Pizza Port in Carlsbad, CA.

Pours a clear orange-brown with a foamy beige head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, brown sugar, dark fruit, spices, and yeast. Taste is much the same with a mild spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is tasty and a good American take on the style.

On tap at PP OB. Snifter. Brewed at Pizza Port Carlsbad.

A: Dark reddish brown with an inch of beige foam. Scattered lacing.

S: Big dark fruit ester profile with plum, prune, and dark cherry. There's a little gum. Malt is bready and rich with a little caramel and rose-like floral notes. There's a peppery character as well. Rich and complex.

T: Strong bready notes blend with a little caramel and toasted character. Plum accompanies raisin, grape, and dark cherry. The dark fruit profile is dried with perfumy floral character. Rich malty finish and quite estery with a little warming.

M: Medium body with upper medium carbonation.

Overall: Rich malt and a complex dark fruit presence create a nice combination. Really nice aroma.

On cask at Pizza Port Carlsbad. This was a version with sour cherries added to the cask Malty aroma,Cherry as it warms. Some toastiness . One quarter inch of creamy head on a dark reddish body. Lacy.Average mouthfeel. More sweet than tart, would like more tuning up, significant tartness.

A - Brown beer that turns yellow and red on the edges. Small white head that faded to a tight ring and left some spots on the sides.

S - Lots of dark fruit and candy sugars. The raisins are very evident but its not overpowering.

T - Caramel, brown and candy sugar, and a nice bit of raisins. The raisins are pretty complementary, and give it a fuller taste than a lot of dubbels. Rich tasting, with some banana and clove. Pretty good.

M - Syrupy, full bodied for a dubbel, moderate carbonation.

O - Really nice dubbel that packs a lot of flavor, I enjoyed this quite a bit and would have more.

On-tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad

A: The pour is dark amber in color with a finger of off-white head.

S: Sweet malts and dark fruits fill the nose. Lots of raisins (not surprising considering the massive addition of raisins to the beer) and a bit of plum. Some dark sugars and toasted bread are also on display.

T: Sweet raisins, bananas, and bubblegum provide a really nice flavor, though perhaps a bit sweet. Bready malt, toffee, and dark sugar are also there. A touch of spice (clove) and yeast are also present.

M: Medium to full in body with a medium level of carbonation.

O: While quite sweet, the flavor was really enjoyable.
