On tap at Pizza Port in Carlsbad, CA.

Pours a clear gold with a foamy off-white head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, honey, spices, fruit, and yeast. Taste is much the same with a fruity flavor and an alcohol kick on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that is tasty but fairly boozy and strong.

Glowing golden orange and yellow with a thin white cap that leaves spiderwebs of lace down the glass. Gorgeous!

A sweet aroma with a mild tang from the Belgian yeast. There's a lot of sweet banana, earthy and floral hops, white fruit (pear and apple), and a bit of pepper.

The flavor is dominated by sweet white fruits (apple, pears, bananas), a mild cracker malt, and a bit of Belgian yeast flavor, though it's not at all dominant.

Light to medium mouthfeel, even airy and light and incredibly drinkable--marvelous for such a "big" BSPA.

A fantastic, incredibly drinkable, flavorful BSPA. The mouthfeel and ease of drinkability send this one over the top.

On tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad.

A: Pellucid yellow with a big creamy white head. Great looking beer.

S: Perfumy floral hop notes blend with a light pepper-like phenolic quality. Apple, orange, and pear are evident. Great.

T: Sweet malt notes blend with pronounced fruity esters which appear as apple and pear with a little orange. Lightly bitter with soft alcohol and lightly spicy phenols. Alcohol is well hidden.

M: Lower medium body with upper moderate carbonation.

Overall: A damn fine Golden Strong.

App- A great looking golden yellow with a ton of foamy head to it. Faded rather slowly and left great sticky legs and cling.

Smell- A really nice soft Belgian yeast not with a little bitter hops and some smallish malts. More trailing notes include a little early damp grass and a little cracker.

Taste- This was pretty good. It retained most of the smell notes and added a little citrus to the backend. A little more yeast and grass than I wouldve liked but the dampness feel adds to its character.

Mouth- A little leaning towards being light bodied with a high carbonated feel. A little dampness remains.

Drink- This was tasty but a little to crackery for me. I know the yeast and malts play together but this seemed just a tweek to far for my tastes.

Closed out the night with this.

A - Golden hazy beer with a decent bit of head that left some fat lace.

S - Belgian yeast, touch of stone fruit, banana, clove. A little on the sweet side with just a little pepper to break things up.

T - Some alcohol warmth melds with Belgian yeast and then leads to banana and clove with some pepper. It's a nice bit of stuff going on, with a good amount of things to pick up on and the contrasting flavors giving some balance. Not exactly my style of beer, but this is pretty good. Just a little too much phenol from the yeast, but it gets easier to overlook as you go.

M - Medium bodied, with moderate carbonation.

O - Nice beer, has a good complexity and isn't overly yeasty or sweet. Wouldn't mind having this one again.

On-tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad

A: The pour is a pale yellow color with a large white head on top.

S: Very heavy on the esters and phenols. Banana, white pepper, and clove are prominent aromas. There is a touch of straw and grass. Pale cracker malts and yeast are also present.

T: The flavors are much the same. Mildly sweet with some cracker malts and bread. Pepper, grass, banana, and spices are there along with some yeast. A light fruitiness comes out as it warms up a bit.

M: Surprisingly light in body with a fairly high level of carbonation.

O: Not one of my favorites. Too phenolic and not much sweetness at all.

10/25/10- Had this one on-tap at PP Carlsbad. Cool place.
A: VERY clear pale amber, with anice creamy white lace, collar, and film.
S: Slightly copper pale bread, peachy orange banana, pear, grain, grapefruit hops.
T: Sweet, with peach, a slight dryness, floral finish, honey, crysanthemum, slightly moldy bitter finish.
M: Not thin, creamy/frothy, dry finish.
D: Very good.

On tap Pizza Port Carlsbad 8.5.09 poured into pint glass.

Clear yellow golden brew with almost no head and minimal lacing. Malty sweetness on the nose, very little hop presence. Very sweet on the tastebuds, candi sugar/bubble gum, not much hop presence, but complex fruitiness, apricot, mango, peaches. Not much carbonation on the mouthfeel. Farily drinkable, the alcohol is not very noticeable. Not a particulary memorable brew, have to wonder whether some bottle conditioning might improve this.

Consumed 03/11/09 at Blue Palms, Hollywood, CA.

Beer is presented with no head. Beer is a clear amber/copper/medium golden colored affair.

Aroma is sweet with slight clover honey note.

Flavor is Duvel-like, but not as successful as its better-known kin. Sweet, dry, evaporative flavors of honey, cloves, sage, coriander, (maybe) white pepper.

Well-balanced and easy to drink, but falls a hair shy of the target. Duvel is still the king.

Listed on menu as 7.9% ABV.
