On tap at Pizza Port in Carlsbad, CA.

Pours a clear honey orange with a foamy bone colored head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, citrus zest, and some herbal hop aromas. Taste is much the same with medium hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with some nice aromas and flavors.

Burnished gold and light amber with a tight, thick off-white head that leaves the glass completely messy with lines and webs of lace. Gorgeous!

Very citrus-forward aroma with lots of grapefruit, orange, and some pineapple leading the way, There's a bit of sweet and pale malts in there as well, but this is a wonderfully aromatic IPA (I don't care if they call it a pale ale or not!).

Fairly bitter for a pale ale with lots of biting citrus elements and a touch of sweet malt to balance things out just a touch. About perfect.

Medium to full bodied, especially per the style, with ample carbonation.

A delicious, citrus-forward, incredibly flavorful, hugely drinkable American pale ale (disguised as an IPA!).

*Notes from 12/02/11

A: Another super clear light caramel-amber color APA from Port with a thin sea foam white froth. Lots of carbonation evident. Drooped lacing.

S: Pineapple Judo Chop! Smells of just straight pineapple fruit with some sugary sweet malts in the background.

T: Hey there pretty hop Momma! Hops oh hops baby. Grapefruit, melon, and some florals. Big huge in your face bitterness factor. Pucker up. Malts are there and just a bit bready providing a slight sweetness. One Bad Ass APA that drinks like a DIPA. A fat Elvis Kung Fu kick to yo mouth!

M: Rather lighter body overall. Slightly creamy texture with a real dry and almost harsh crisp finish to it.

D: Another superb use of the hops by Port. Almost too much bitterness going on but so good and so drinkable. Make no mistake. This ain’t your pretty boy Hollywood Elvis Pale Ale. No, no this is a full figured jump suit roundhouse kicking Elvis APA!

Now gimme one of them peanut butter banana bacon sandwiches!

A- Light copper color with a small cap of white foam. Head dissipates quickly leaving a smattering of white bubbles atop the beer.

S- Huge hop aroma. Citrus and hemp forward.

T- Taste delivers more of the same with big grapefruit flavors up front. Malt is largely absent. Tangerine and pine resin combine mid-palate. The finish is very dry with a really nice bitter grapefruit aftertaste which lingers.

M- The beer is medium bodied with a downright effervescent level of carbonation. Perfect for the style.

O- Yet another outstanding hop forward pale ale from Pizza Port. Incredible hop character and excellent drinkability make for a very enjoyable experience. Highly recommended.

On-tap at Carlsbad

A: The pour is an amber sort of color with a finger's worth of off-white head.

S: The nose is nicely hoppy with quite a bit of fruit character. Some tropical notes as well as citrus in the form of tangerine and grapefruit. Underneath the hops, a nice bready malt aroma.

T: The flavors are quite similar to the nose. A pleasant and moderate bitterness with plenty of citrus hop flavors. Like a good pale ale should be, a nice balance of bready malts.

M: A medium body (maybe on the light side of the spectrum) with a crisp carbonation.

D: A pretty nice and easy to drink beer, as a pale ale should be. I wouldn't mind having this one again.

Poured a golden orange with yellow highlights that had a little thin head and left blotchy sticky lacing on the glass. The aromas was quite pleasent consisting of citrus fruits, tangerine, sweet malts, and slight hop notes as well. Upfront the flavors were quite fruit forward with the tangerine and citrus leading the way alongside the malt backbone and the mild hop bite. The brew was medium body with a fair amount of carbonation that had a sweet, citric, crisp, and very slight hop bitter finish. It drank really good with a good balance between the malts and the hops. I really did enjoy the citrus characters it had as well.

On tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad. Appears vibrant orange tinged golden with a frothy one inch head, nice retention, thick lacing.

Quite aromatic, with perfumey notes of apricot, tangerine, and grapefruit. Malt is slightly sweet. Citrus is powerful and glorious with hints or victory.

The flavor is moderately bitter while being simultaneously sweet and dry with citrus notes of tangerine, apricot, orange, and grapefruit. The beer is moderately balanced with some caramel and crackery malt. Quite delicious.

Light medium bodied with upper moderate carbonation and a sticky mouthfeel. A great hoppy pale ale.
