Thanks to Alex for the share, review from notes.

A - Golden orangish beer with a nice, off-white head that had good retention with some great lace on the sides of the glass.

S - Really great hops aroma. Lots of citrus, grass, and pine. Some good tropical fruit with a slight bit of the malt backbone showing through.

T - Taste is great like the nose. Citrus, tropical fruits, and a little bit of pine. Nice malt backbone with a slight bit of alcohol burn. A lot of wetness and grass on this one, makes it taste quite fresh.

M - Medium bodied, decent carbonation.

O - Really nice beer, but then again, Pizza Port knows IPAs so this is expected. Wish we could get them like this regularly around here.

A big thanks to Alex for bringing this one. Poured from growler into LA tumbler, dark golden orange with a creamy off white head that settles to a cap with nice lacing. Smell is super grassy and fresh, very green, some pale malts, a bit earthy. Much more bitter then I would have expected, very grassy, fresh and green tasting, some citrus, grapefruit, a hint of bready malt sweetness in the finish. Medium bodied and light carbonation. Not sure if this is a wet hopped beer, but it sure tastes like it. I really enjoyed this beer and would love to try it again.

Big thanks to Shane for the hookup on this one. Served in a Sam Adam's Perfect Pint glass.

A - Hazed bronze body with a finger-plus of off-white foam that features excellent retention and glass-coating lace. A few streams of tiny bubbles are visible.

S - Big citrus rind initially, but then more grass and pine emerges. Is this a wet hop beer? The malt character is lightly bread, with some burnt sugar character that makes itself known as the beer warms up.

T - Nice mid-level bitterness that is distinctly West Coast. Zesty citrus, pine, floral notes, and freshly cut grass. Malt character is more restrained in the flavor. Alcohol peaks through slightly - perhaps this is displaying the Arbitrator phenomenon where West Coast IPAs and DIPAs get boozier in the growler? More of a 4.25 for me.

M - Smooth, medium body, moderate carbonation, very dry finish with nice residual enamel-coating resins. Spot-on for the style.

D - I had a few pours of this one, as it was extremely enjoyable. The slightly higher than usual ABV makes this a bit tough to consider as a session beer, but it's another worthy addition to the Pizza Port stable.

Thanks to Alex via Shane for this growler poured into a perfect pint glass...Medium gold pour, murky, A light tan head, really good cap, light lacing, looks pretty decent...The aroma is full of musky hops, I think its wet hopped, grapefruit rings, and lots of fresh cut grass...The taste is more musky wet grass, really hoppy, becomes a little unbalanced as most of the citrus notes are gone. Epitome of a west coast ipa...A really nice full, musky, rough feel, I like it.

Not my favorite type of ipa with all wet hops and grass, but its really fresh and refreshing so I'd have recommend having this.

12/22/10

New IPA at Pizza Port Ocean Beach, I figured I'd better stop by. Fresh batch tapped on 12/17/2010.

A: Appears a dark golden orange with no haze. The head is frothy and beige, exhibiting good retention.

A: Hops are highly aromatic, imparting strong grapefruit and orange flesh notes with the faintest caramel sweetness. I also detect peach and subtle mango notes, as well as pine and some floral character. This is great.

T: Moderately bitter with no astringency or alcohol in the flavor. Resinous pine accompanies a faintly sweet crackery caramel malt presence. The sweetness is hardly there. The fruit profile is orange and grapefruit flesh with just a little rind and pith character. Lesser notes of peach and mango are apparent. The hops impart strong flavor without being overly bitter, which really increases the drinkability of this crisp beverage. The crisp finish is a moderately bitter and dry, though not desiccating, with a final citrus hop flourish that lingers. Excellent.

M: Light medium body with good draft carbonation and a sticky and crisp mouthfeel. Dry, but not overly so, which makes it very, very drinkable.

Overall: Another fantastic hoppy beer from Pizza Port Ocean Beach. This brewer is very talented. Highly recommended.

Rolled into Pizza Port yesterday to see what's new on the draft menu since I had been out of town for the past week. Saw this one up on the board and was told that it had just been added over the weekend in place of the regular Jetty IPA (Jetty will be back on draft along side this one soon though). Had one served in a pint glass for $3.99. Also, when I asked about the ABV, the bar manager wasn't certain, stating that it's somewhere around the mid to high 7's, so I just put it in as 7.6%.

A: Pours a light honey-like hue with a thin head that dissipates quickly, leaving small amounts of lacing from start to finish.

S: Sweet fresh grains, toasted carmel malt, earthy hop - pine and grapefruit rinds.

T: Similar to the nose, but with a big hop blast that is really unique in flavor in comparison to most IPA's (not sure the strain, but very nice). The massive hop presence is balanced perfectly with sweet flavorful malt, finishing grainy and bready. This one reminds me a lot of the "Get Wet IPA" they ran earlier in the Fall, but with a greater hop presence.

M: Medium-bodied, a bit sticky, but finishes extremely dry, with a good amount of carbonation that works well with the style and a lasting resiny bitterness from the hop.

D: Only had time for a quick one, but i'm really looking forward to getting a growler of this stuff and posting up on it for an evening.
