A lighter shade of black, but beyond dark brown. Beige head, 1" deep, the standard, average lacing and retention. Dark chocolate aroma, heavier bitterness going on.
Flavors had some highly roasted nuttiness to accompany the dark chocolate and substantial amount of malt that was also roasted in an aggressive manner. The bitterness contributes to the initial thought that this was a pretty high abv beer. As the drinking experience continued, the high alcohol mouthfeel vanishes and you're left getting more acclimated to the beer, it seems less bitter and silkier throughout the back half of the beer. Licorice? I'm thinking it might be in here.
A pretty good beer, it gets better after you kind of experience the high bitterness, hops, roastiness and slightly acrid taste at first, but my palate adjusted and it became an impressive beer. Who knows, maybe it just took some time to wash the ipa's out my mouth or whatever pizza we had ordered. Drank at San Clemente Pizza Port.

On tap at Stone Brewing Bistro & Gardens. Very dark brown with a white creamy head. Big, but very good roast. Not very drinkable but really hits the spot based on the roast. Not astringent, certainly well hopped. Licorice, chocolate, coffee. Medium mouthfeel.

On-tap @ Ocean Beach Pizza Port. Notes from San Diego trip.
A- Black body with a dark mocha-tan head that has nice retention. A fine ring leaves spotty lace.
S- Roast malt, coffee hints and dark cocoa up front. Slight fruit but mostly roasty.
T- Great roast profile, just like in the aroma. Good notes of coffee, cocoa and black malt. Some fruit and good nutty malt hints. Slight bit of alcohol flavor.
MF- Slightly creamy thick body with an acrid roast bitter finish on the palate.
Awesome use of roast malt in a good stout. Goes down easy, straight up stout.

Back on the Pizza Port reviewing kick after a short break.
A - Black beer with a brownish head in the low light. It's a four ounce taster so you're not expecting huge head but there is a little here that stuck around for a bit and left some spots on the side.
S - Some chocolate and roasted malts. Little bit of earth tones. Nothing exceptional, but it is pleasant to smell.
T - Taste is a lot like the smell, with chocolate, roasted malts, little coffee, and some earth/nut notes. Coffee bitters it slightly on the end.
M - Fuller bodied, creamy, medium-level carbonation.
O - Not a bad beer, I actually thought there was more alcohol in it given the taste, but it's still solid. Won't blow anyone away, but can drink and enjoy.

On-tap at Pizza Port Ocean Beach
A: The beer pours a deep, dark brown color with a creamy khaki head that sticks to the glass.
S: This is a very roasty stout. There's a slight char and ash note to it and maybe even some smoke. A strong bitter, dark chocolate or cocoa powder presence as well. A hint of vanilla creeps in on the back end.
T: A high level of reliance on the roast here. The dark chocolate flavor is pleasant and provides a solid, but not overwhelming, bitterness. Some ash and char just like the nose showed, and there is a bit of coffee to the flavor, too.
M: The body is medium, but not quite as impressive as I expected for a big stout like this. The smooth and creamy carbonation makes up for it a little bit, though.
D: Not as good as Solana's ABLE beer, unfortunately, but this is for a good cause, so at least get a small pour of it. And it's not bad by any means.

On tap at Pizza Port Ocean Beach.
A: Deep brown bordering on black with a light chocolate colored frothy head.
S: Lush dark chocolate landscape with evident molasses and a little anise. Lightly earthy with a touch of coffee and a restrained roast. The chocolate profile is most notable, and molasses complements it nicely.
T: Rich dark chocolate with a strong molasses presence and a dash of anise. Moderate roasted malt profile. Rich and smooth, with no real astringency and well hidden alcohol. Good chocolate profile. Touch of coffee with an upper low level of bitterness. Moderately sweet with the roast and mild bitterness seeming to dry it out a bit.
M: Full bodied with moderate carbonation. Mouthfeel is chewy, thick, smooth, creamy, and sticky, with a touch of warming. Great.
Overall: A very well made Double stout from Pizza Port Ocean Beach. Reminds me a bit of Abyss.

Had on tap at Pizza Port Ocean Beach.
Beer pours a nice, rich dark brown witha nice tan head that laces throughout.
Beer smells of roasty malts and slightly of dark chocolate.
Beer tastes of roastiness. Hints of chocolate and coffee, followed by quite a bit of bitterness.
Beer was a bit on thing side, as far as mouthfeel.

Pours a nearly black opaque with a taupe head. Smoky, coffee, and cherry aromas. Mouthfeel is so smooth, creamy, silky, bordering on viscous. A lot of chocolate, coffee and sweet lactose. Finishes with some bitterness, coming from a combination of bittering hops and coffee acidity.

A - Pours black, mocha head, spotty lacing, nice cap.
S - Lots of coffee, roast, slight chocolate.
T - Similar to the nose. Good roast nutty notes, coffee, chocolate, and a nice bitter-sweet finish.
M - Medium to full, rich and smooth, oaky-dry finish.
D - A solid stout, nothing mind-blowing, give it a try!

We were supposed to be getting the Solana Beach DIPA, but received this instead. Whoops. Oh well - thanks anyway Chris!
A - Looks a lot like my pour of Ugly, but with darker foam and worse retention. Near-black body, splotchy lace. Still, pretty solid looking imperial stout.
S - Smells like chocolate and smoke malts, some multi-grain and dark rye breads, earthy hop, and some light alcohol.
T - Taste is very similar. Roasty espresso and dark chocolate, mixed with some light sweetness to it. Finishes with fairly intense bitterness.
M - Smooth, medium-full body, pleasant medium-low carbonation. Drinks lower than an 8%+ Imperial Stout.
D - This was quite easy to drink other than the mounting roast bitterness and char flavors. It's a pretty good, but not mind-blowing, Imperial Stout. I'd have this again, but I wouldn't seek it out specifically.

Growler provided by Chris, poured into a Cigar City snifter... The beer pours a light black, with some dark tan head, ok retention and lacing... The aroma is standard, bitter dark chocolate with some smoke, light hop finish. Not bad, but not exciting me... The taste is right on with the nose, an average and tasty stout, but nothing crazy. Dark chocolate, a little roast bitter finish.
Slightly above average stout, I'd drink at Pizza Port but wouldn't go out of my way.
