On Tap

Pizza Port
Carlsbad, CA

Clear golden yellow with a thin white cap. Spots of lacing left down the glass.

Bready and grainy aroma with a bit of citrus and floral hop presence. Simple and earthy.

Taste follows the aroma. This is a simple, bready, pale ale with a mild citrus hint.

Medium bodied with ample carbonation. Very easy to drink.

A decent, yet simple, pale ale. That being said, it pairs great with greasy pizza and would make for a great pitcher for a table of people introducing themselves to better beer.

Enjoyed on-tap @ Pizza Port Brewing in Carlsbad, CA for $5. Tapped from the Black Non-Labeled Tap Handle into a Pint Glass.

Aroma- High amount of citrus and floral hops. Low maltiness and has a biscuity aroma was well.

Appearance- Received with a 2 finger head that has great retention! Pale golden color body and has a medium amount of haze. Small amount of lacing.

Flavor- Starts with nice citrus hops and very well balanced with the malt. Not too overpowering and has a medium hop bitterness at the finish.

Mouthfeel- Light to Medium Bodied, High Carbonation, Smooth, and leaves big hop taste on the palate.

Overall Impression- For my first brew @ Pizza Port, this was great! Hoppy but not over the top, good drinkability, and refreshing! I'm excited to enjoy many more here!

On tap at Mother Earth.

A: Straw yellow with nice clarity and a mountainous head. Sheets of lacing are left on the glass.

S: Grain and bread with a whisper of citrus, perhaps orange. The hops are feeble and unexpressive.

T: Lightly sweet grainy malt with a lower moderate hop bitterness. Maybe a little biscuit. There's a dash of orange with some grassiness, but the hop character is surprisingly muted, especially for a Pizza Port Carlsbad pale ale.

M: Dry with a lower medium body and moderate carbonation.

Overall: A rare miss from Pizza Port Carlsbad. Not recommended. Very bland.

On-tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad

A: The pour is a clear amber-golden color with a nice white head.

S: Mild hops on the nose with citrus, grass, and floral notes. A fair amount of bready malt and sweetness. Just a touch of pine on the back end. Not the super fragrant nose I was expecting.

T: The flavor isnt terribly impressive either. Grassy hops with a mild bitterness. Some floral and citrus peel hop notes too, and a lot of bread with a light sweetness.

M: The body and carbonation could both fit into the medium category.

O: Sort of a boring beer, especially from Pizza Port. Wasn't a big fan of this.

New Pale Ale on tap @ PP Carlsbad - had to try!
*notes from last night

A: Funny Bone pours a bubbly light and clear golden straw pale color with a nice 1 finger tight cap of white foam. Some intermittent waves of lace.

S: Aroma is a nice fruity bouquet with lots of apricot and mango highlights. Complimented with a signature fruity ale yeast. Very nice.

T: Taste is yet another light and refreshingly hoppy crisp pale from the Port. Big fruity mango, pineapple, and apricot flavors. Floral even. Lightly sweet grains with a distinct Pilsner malt character like that of a German Lager. Nice dry crisp finish. Quite sessionable and really enjoyable.

M: Incredibly light in body with a creamy texture and slightly slick mf. Nice bitterness with a dry crisp finish.

D: Excellent drinkability with incredible hop flavors packed into this light bodied brew. Great Summer sessions stuff for sure!

Once again PizzaPort wins me over with these incredibly refreshing and hoppy pale ales. More technically an IPA in my opinion with all the hop goodness here this one differentiated with the possible use of some Pils malts maybe. Not overly bittered or in your face but super drinkable. Definitely would order again.
