A friend and I stopped by Pizza Port in Solana Beach for lunch on a Saturday in August while visiting San Diego. After reading about Tomme Arthur winning Small Brewer of the Year at the GABF, I had to try some of his brews!

The place is quite laid-back. The seating is all picnic tables lined up end to end, so you get to make new friends whether you want to or not. The decor is surf boards and video games. The place is definitely a hang-out for the younger generation: I doubt many there were over 40. Most seemed in their early 20s.

It was quite crowded at lunch, but we ordered our pizza after waiting in line for just a minute or two. I then headed to the right to order some beer. A four-beer sampler tray is $3.50. The best one I had was their Double IPA, Hop 15. But I'm a hophead so YMMV. Brown Bag Malt Liquor was also good and really smooth and creamy. It beat the hell out of OE and King Cobra. I think they had about 10 house brews on tap and about six guest beers, which were all good California craft brews.

We had one of those California pizzas with stuff you wouldn't normally put on pizza: black beans, peppers, onions, etc. It was quite good. A small was enough for two hungry guys. Although my buddy Chris did have a Caesar salad. I just stuck with pizza and beer.

I would recommend this place highly. Check it out when in San Diego. Also, my fellow BA xlperro points out that you can take the Amtrak Coaster north from San Diego and get off right across 101 from Pizza Port. It doesn't get much better than that.

I do love this place, the vibe is surfy, beer selection is weak and the food is mediocre. But the location and vibe is great.

This place is a couple of blocks away from the main Solano Beach entry. As always, great pizza and good beer selection, although not as good as the Carlsbad location, generally speaking. Always a good vibe, always been busy. bathrooms, small but functional. A few arcade games in the back for the kids with good visuals into this area for supervising adults. Smaller seating area than the other locations. One downside here is the parking. limited out front or side parking when the other adjacent businesses are in full swing. This is my go to place when in the area and hits the spot after being at the beach all day. Hope this helps. Cheers.
