S - Spicy with a strong pepper presence up front. There is also some bitter dark chocolate

T - Sweet apple brandy, vanilla, chocolate and slight pepper spice that lingers in the finish. The pepper is strong but lingers slightly in the finish as well as some oak and chocolate.

M - Medium body with some slight syrupiness from the apple brandy. There is also spice that lingers on the tongue in the finish

O - A good stout with loads of pepper and spice that is balanced against sweet apple brandy and chocolate

Served on-tap at Perch Pub during the Voodoo/Perennial event during Philly Beer Week.

A - Pours ink black with a nice one finger tall tan head, quickly dissipating down to a light film, leaving small streaks of lace on the sides of the glass.

S - Smells of fresh ground cinnamon, dried pepper skins, chocolate, vanilla, day old coffee, woody oak, dash of hops, apple jack and plenty of dark roasted malts. It smells spot on for the description, maybe a touch to cinnamon forward but thats nit picking.

T - Starts off with the chocolatey sweetness quickly being joined by the warming peppers, coffee, oak, apples and the ever present dark roasted malt. Finish is sweet with some peppery spice and light booze, lingering long after the finish.

M - Medium-Heavy body with moderate to low carbonation. Feel is best described as sweet heat. The booze grows as it warms up, getting a touch out of control as it fully warms.

O - A bit more refined than the original version but overall they are about the same in the grand scheme of things. I would definitely drink it again but I wouldn't go overboard trading for it.

On tap at Perch Pub.
Had this alongside K13 and Tenacious Wee. This one was probably my favorite of the three, with TW coming in a close second, and K13 not even in the ballpark.

Dark brown-black pour, oily look, with a thin dark brown head that sank to a collar and held there, leaving just a few minor dots of lacing on the glass when swirled. Lots going on in the aroma, as I would have expected, apple and cinnamon, malt/coffee/cocoa roast, toasted oak, some vegetal and mineral elements. Similar complexity in the taste, a lot happening, but everything was melded well...there really wasn't one specifically dominant flavor. Chocolate, spicy cinnamon, candied apple, brandy-soaked figs, licorice, earthy, woody, subtle orange marmalade. Pepper spice/heat was definitely present, but more of a background sensation, which was good. The body on this wasn't too huge, coming in at about medium, but it seemed appropriate nonetheless. Moderate carbonation, some boozy heat. A great brew overall.
