I get the variation on the ratings of this. Perhaps I'm being overly generous. But I simply haven't had another beer like this. Rum, oak, cocoa ... and a bit of paint thinner and green apple come off the nose. It's initially really appealing but gets sharper over time. The flavor has more rum than any beer I've had before. In small doses it's pretty fascinating. The cocoa and vanilla are prominent, a charred oak element comes in the back. Actually, it's a woody element that's not just oak ... I get cedar, eucalyptus (from that paint thinner and green apple element I assume). The finish is long and pleasant, complex, waves of toasted cocoa nibs, wood, sweet rum and coke.

thanks scott! drank from a 22oz voodoo. wow, first written review...so much responsibility. the trade value of this beer hinges on this review. I mean the first 3 reviews are in the low/mid 4s but no words so what does that mean? well what I can tell you is it was not a hit at the tasting. I like it just fine but it is a brown ale w lots of rum, so there ya have it. barrel is strong, I get a little coffee, but barrel!
