Notes/Commercial Description:
Our Gran Met (Grand Master) is an Ale made from our Propriatery yeast from a small brewery in Belgium. We use Cane and Beet sugar, along with German Pilsner Malt to create the unique flavor of this age old style. We also use a unique fermentation process of slowly adding the sugars to the fermentation during fermentation. This allows the yeast to more slowly ferment the beer without overloading the yeast. This process allows for a more clean, tight flavor profile.

A: A clear golden color with a little bit of lingering head
S: Can definitely smell the aroma of European hops and orange peels
T: Complex with flowers, hops, and a little bitterness
M/D: With the high alcohol content, nice to sip and take time to appreciate all the flavors

Bomber bottle

Pours near clear lighter almond amber, under a thin off white head, leaving a moderate film, thin collar and respectable low sheeting and bits of lace.

Ripe fruit nose.

Carbonation on the low side especially for the style is the first thing I notice about this one. Notes of more ripe fruit, some lime and light ginger comes to mind.

Moderate hops dry out the finish. Meh ... this one is really not doing it for me...first prob. was the lower then ideal carbonation level for the style. Should be closer to champagne and this one has the carbonation of a barley wine...

22oz bomber at cellar temp poured into an ommegang goblet. 2/11 written in sharpie on the blue cap. listed as 9.5% on the bottle.

pours out a fairly clear golden, slight orange color with a fizzy white head that was gone within a minute. just a thin retentive ring left. no lace.

aromas of phenolic belgian yeast, apples, sweet candied sugary grains.

crisp carbonation, but almost no alcohol esters, the 9.5% is very well hidden (maybe from the late sugar additions). a fruity, phenolic belgian yeast gives way to sweet candied malts, crisp apples and maybe some pears. full bodied. dry finish

overall: not terribly complex, but refreshing and easy drinking

Grand Master not exactly flavors collide at this stage in the game I hope some bottle conditioning is in the works at the brewery before the next batch is released. Very much like a Victory Golden Monkey that always gets so much better with age, alright fresh but it will shine with time. Right now flavors are brash young raw and unrefined. Appearance fine white bubbly head semi hazed golden bright honey amber body lacing is even with fine bubbles sticking to the glass. Aroma has some fusel alcohol upfront blended with sweet sugar components mentioned on the bottle as a mix of Belgian candy and beet sugar some of grainy aspects with some green apple and tropical fruit esters. Flavor brings semi metallic with alcohol infused grainy flavors, and cloying sweet sugar not unnatural just not well blended yet sweetness to the forefront of each sip. Alchol brashness blends with esters like tart apple and tropical fruit notes, age this please because now it starts to cause some unpleasant warming and forty ounce high graviy conotations with it. Mouthfeel body is medium with syrup like textures carbonation flows heavy for a tripel, traditionally these are velvety I remember Dead Tony's Tripel at Four Sons Brewing being much more quaffable than this one. Drinkability was straight to the head not too drinkable a great belgian style triple will get you there without letting you know it along the way. This beer isn't able to pull it off, throw it in the cellar and re-evaluate.

A- This beer pours a hazy golden caramel colored body with a thick creamy eggshell colored head that last and last. There is a strong carbonation of tiny bubbles that glide to the surface.

S- This beer has a clean yeasty aroma with note of fresh rain and a cidery finish. As the beer warms the cidery notes increase a bit.

T- The soft flavor of doughy yeast is sweet with a hard candy flavor to follow. As the beer warms this candy flavor turns more and more into apple. There is a soft white raisin note and a stronger carbonic acid dryness that least to a soft green hop prick at the finish.

M- This beer has a medium-full mouthfeel due much to the full head and a dry finish but no real alcohol heat.

D- This beer has some strong apple juice/cider qualities that dominate and not much character from the yeast. It was a bit dull to make it through a full bottle.

Impressive! The best beer I've had from Voodoo.

It poured a golden body beneath a bright white head (that unfortunately exhibited poor retention and very limited lacing. Of course I was drinking out of a bar glass that might not have been very clean, so I don't really know if it was the beer itself or not).

The aroma exhibited sweetish, bready and almost candyish malt with a hint of vanilla; a spritz of alcohol; yeast character (fruit: apple, pear, maybe white grape; some spice; actual yeast notes) and a background hoppiness. Very straight-forward.

The flavor carried on in the same way. Very straight-forward. Very focused. The alcohol was noticeable in the flavor, but not too much so, especially for a beer of 9.5%, and it certainly didn't inhibit the candyish, doughy malt, and (dull) hoppy flavors.

Overall, it was surprisingly drinkable. It's not really complex, but there's enough there to keep you interested; and in a way that's good because you're not distracted looking for more, or dealing with more (some beers are overdone, especially the stronger ones, but this is not). It's clear from the start what's there in the flavor and aroma, and it's good, and that's all you need! Nicely done.

22oz bomber, i believe from no bs 17.3

poured into a bells tulip, 6pm on a long saturday

appearance: bubbly pale golden body, foamy beige caps that retain well...this is def a living being

smell: not much to the nose, clean and yeasty with some light fruity esters

taste: a drinkable but not brilliant belgian attempt, overly sweet citrus, stale yeast, white pepper and booze

mouthfeel: sweet and faux-syrupy

drinkability: ok

Interesting beer. Not like most strong belgians. There's a little heat in there, but for the most part there's a nice balance of phenols, malt, and hops. All the flavors are subtle, making for a very drinkable beer. The aroma comes off a touch weak with the phenols seemingly taking over. The malt has a light toasted note and with sweet bread. The phenols in the flavor are a bit strong compared to the easy malts, but compliment the hops, which are a little bit dry with a black ground pepper and herbal flavor that comes through into the finish.

Worth a try for something different. Too many American Belgians are just overly sweet and lack Belgian character. This is no such beer. The only hint that it's U.S.-made is that it tastes so fresh.

I usually stay away from beers which are more of an IPA hopped up style. This beer delivers a very smooth sweet taste which I love. The beet sugar definitely comes through and helps to jack up the ABV to near 10% ABV. Let a couple of my NYC friends try and they are now addicted to this beer. Lucky for them it is now sold at Whole Foods. One of my favorite beers out there. Founder Matt Allyn delivers an amazing beer!

Appearance – Pours into a tulip with a slightly hazy orange color and a finger of slight off white head.

Smell – Lots of floral notes and fruit esters, clove, Belgian yeast, breadiness, banana.

Taste – Quite similar to the nose. Seems like every other run of the mill Triple. Lots of banana and clove, floral at the back end, plenty of yeast.

Mouthfeel – Medium bodied, decent carbonation.

Overall – A somewhat blah Triple, though coincidentally rather easy to drink. For such a high ABV, this goes down quite easily.

Poured from a 22 oz bottle with a super rad label into a snifter.

A: Pours a slightly hazy dark straw, golden yellow with a thin half finger white head that faded pretty quickly. A fair amount of bubbles shooting up through the beer.

S: Very potent saison smell. Some lemony citrus notes. Strong orange rind in there as well. Floral and spicy hop notes...a little bit of that belgian yeast quality in there...sort of a wet hay smell.

T: STRONG biting citrus taste...lemon, grapefruit, orange...almost reminds me of a glass of theraflu or a bad screwdriver. Not very pleasing at all. Just an overwhleming astringent citrus overload. I can't get past it at all. I actually might not finish this beer.

M: Highly carbonated and medium-thin to thin bodied. Was certainly meant to be a summer beer. Definitely a dry beer as well.

O: This is going to be the lowest rated beer I've reviewed to date. I can tell what they were going for and they missed. The yeast doesn't come thorugh enough...and that theraflu/cheap vodka screwdriver taste just overwhelms anything that might have been done well. Perhaps I got a bad bottle, but this is not good. I'm going to let it warm a bit and see if it improves, but more than likely, I will be dumping this. Two big thumbs down on this one from me - Voodoo has many, many better beers in their stable...avoid this one.

Poured from a brown 22 oz. bottle. Has a dark golden/light brown color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is very mild, some yeast and spice. Taste is also mild for the style, alcohol, some malts, a touch of spice, a bit bland. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall, while not terrible, I was expecting more from this beer.
