Poured into a Jackie O's snifter on 2/18/11; shared by Spider889
Dull cola brown color; plenty dark. One and a half fingers of khaki colored head which dissipates quickly to a skim and island of bubbles. Lots of lace.
Even-tempered aroma. Overtones of citrus and pine hops lead onward to roasted notes with a slight tangy nip. Bittersweet chocolate. Faint suggestions of coffee. Some berry notions. A subtle mustiness emerges as it warms.
Dry, dry, dry - lots of roasted coffee and strong espresso to taste. Some burnt chocolate is seated beyond that. Solid hop presence that kicks upfront and lingers on the finish. Piney with hints of citrus. Subtle wood and earthy suggestions.
Grittiness and a granular feel scratch along this full bodied beer. Though not prickly or harsh, it's fairly fizzy; more carbonation than I prefer. Not much alcohol heat but there is a tingling sensation.
Nice, hoppy imperial stout. Lots of roastiness; not much sweetness at all. This is one that really comes together as it warms. Worth a shot.
