Big thanks to Popkas for hooking me up with this one!
Well, as the name implies, this one pours up freakin' jet black. Nice. A medium pour gets a head of dark brown foam, about one-finger thick. This dissipates to a decent surface covering within a couple of minutes. The lacing is in short 'strings' and fairly sticky.
There's no denying this ones maltiness, just from the nose alone. Huge malt presence eminates from the glass. Big notes of milk chocolate, dark chocolate and dutch chocolate milk. A nice roastiness and some hints of caramels. A very slight dark-roasted coffee bitterness. Good presence of light oakiness. The nose is quite balanced, overall.
It just smells delicious.
Large roastiness shows up in the flavor. A nice, big, woody-oakiness is here also. Dark roasted coffee beans. Dark chocolates. Light notes of chocolate milk and hints of caramel and toffee. Hints of roasted brown sugars.
Full-bodied with a low level of carbonation. It's so smooth, it's like water with tiny, tiny bubbles in it. Just a little more bubble content and this would have a nice creaminess going on.
At 12.50%abv, this one will lay you out, if you don't watch it. The problem is that it's easy to forget about that. The alcohol is well-hidden, other than a slight warmth, in the back of your throat. Very tasty and drinkable.
