Poured from the bottle into a snifter.
Out of the bottle pours a nice dark walnut brown and doesn't leave much of a head. However there is a very large collar left over and leaves great lacing of an almost white sheen. The bubbles are so TINY on this it looks real neat. The head is a light light brown. Body of the beer is a classic dark walnut with indian red to light brown hues slightly opaque. Real neat looking beer.
Smell at first is a giant malt ovaltine, grainy intensely dense and chewy with a hint of dryness. Good milk chocolate as will a simple one. Not too much fruit, but.. that to come soon. Not so much roast either.
Taste is real impressive. You first think you're getting a fruit barleywine coming then it gets expansive in the mouth and that ovaltine malt chew comes in with some roast. The feel initially seems wet, then it expands with chewy ovaltine malt taking over. It's light bodied but manages BIG feel. Some tastes of black licorice, wonderfully balanced. Just a hint of carbs but no so big that it's distracting, it's actually fun in the mouth.
This is SO easy drinking, and feels big and simple but in the mouth it's light and easy. Hardly any hint of big alcohol, you could really hurt yourself here cause this is STUPIDLY easy to drink. How they pulled this off I have no idea, it's just great.
