22oz bottle poured into tulip

Pours an clouded inky black color, thin crop of tan head, very little retention or lacing on the glass.

Heavy roasted malts with light char, caramel and chocolate with noticeable anise tone, slight dark fruit and sweetness.

Thick roasted malts, heavy on the tongue, syrup with caramel. Slight hoppy bitterness. Some dark fruit sweetness with dates and cherry. Slight char with malts, thick anise coating. Finishes a bit boozy and warm.

Thick heavy body, a bit syrupy and chewy. Drinks nicely, not too boozy, smooth enough on the tongue. Definitely a good one to split with somebody, and the price point is nice as well.

A - Pours pretty damn black with a nice finger of dense mocha colored head, retention is solid and the lacing is fantastic.

S - Tons of chocolate, mildly bitter dark chocolate, some roasty malts, minimal vanilla type sweetness, licorice.

T - Very nice. A great combination of being boozy but not overly boozy - and chocolatey. Initially a bit of a boozy medicine feel followed but a rich but bitter roasty chocolate flavor and licorice. Aftertaste is fairly pungent booze. Boozyness is a bit bitter, not sure what the hops schedule is like here but it could be relatively significant. After a couple sips the boozyness/bitterness really does kind of dominate, maybe too much so.

M - Mouthfeel is the highlight here, mediumish bodied and incredibly silky smooth, minimal carbonatoin. Really fantastic.

The beer comes in a dark brown/black color.

The aroma has licorice, roasted malt, earthy hops.

The flavor follows as a licorice bomb, but not in an offensive way. There's chocolate in the front, rich roasted malt, and then the back hits of hops and a bitter black chocolate.

At 12.5%, this beer has a medium plus mouthfeel and hides its alcohol well. It drinks more towards most imperial stouts at 9-10%. The beer absolutely disguises 2-3% ABV somehow.
