Got this beer as part of a trade with Douglasjamjak. Thanks a lot Doug!
Appearance: Voodoo Daddy pours out a dark brown color that appears black in the glass, but noticeable dark brown around the edges when held to the light. That's not normally a great sign.... About half a finger of dark tan head forms that has pretty poor staying power and retention.
Smell: The first thing I get on the nose is a coffee-like character, followed by perhaps a touch of chocolate, considerable dark fruits, and some light hops on the back end. Nothing too intense or strong, but it finds a very nice balance.
Taste: Coffee and a lot of fig/raisin/plum flavors show up first, followed by light dark chocolate, some spices (anise, maybe) and hops. Nicely balanced, but I'll say right now that the mouthfeel retracts from the taste. I'll get to that next.
Mouthfeel/Overall: Thin for the style. I'd put it at or a shade under medium bodied, with very low carbonation. As soon as the beer leaves the palate the taste is pretty much gone, aside from a slight linger of coffee and hops. I'm pretty disappointed with the feel, as it really retracts a lot from an otherwise pretty solid taste. Overall, I like the beer quite a bit. I'd love to have this as an "everyday" stout. I really can't believe it's as high as 12% ABV as it drinks a lot easier than that. It's just kind of thin all the way around.

This beer reminded me of a lighter version of Plead the 5th. It was lighter in aspects including taste, mouth feel, color and body. Thinner than I would have thought considering the percentage of alcohol. The smell was pretty decent with chocolate, light roasted malt and booze coming to the forefront. Not a terrible imperial stout by any means, but lacking that punch of flavor I look for in a big stout.
