This Is our Imperial Stout that we age in conditioning tanks with oak staves. This adds a classic character of old world aging with out the Bourbon tones. This black ale is about 12% alc. and very rich in roasted and chocolate malt tones. Velvety smooth and able to be aged for years.

On tap at Fatheads Pittsburgh

A- pours opaque black in color with a small creamy khaki colored head that reduces completely, leaving some lace behind

S- dark toasted malt gives way to aromas of dark fruit, dark chocolate and charred wood with some earthy notes, hints of coffee close it out

T- lots of dark fruit notes of black cherry, raisin & fig. Hints of smoky malt provides a dried pork-like flavor, the finish gives notes of dark chocolate, coffee more dark fruit & licorice

M- medium-viscous body with low carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel that turns into a creamy finish

O- big and bold stout that drinks easier than its abv

L- black as night

S- dark fruits, chocolate, subtle coffee

T- PERFECT BALANCE OF ALL THE FLAVORS IN STOUTS THAT I LOOK FOR!!!!!!!!
......... chocolate, coffee, dark fruits, oak, subtle vanilla

F- great, thick body... somewhat warming

---Overall---
A beer worthy of all praise it receives and plenty more. There is nothing that this beer lacks IMO. Certainly needs to be experienced by anyone who like imperial stouts or think they might like this style. The 12.5% ABV is hidden better than any non-aged imperial stout I've ever had. How this doesn't get the level of hype that many other big ABV imperial stouts on BA get, is completely without explanation.

GO GET THIS BEER.

Bottle purchased at Voodoo Homestead in Homestead, PA.

Pours a dark black, with basically no head, and a very small amount of lacing.

Smells dark, rich, and malty, tons of chocolate, some roast, a little bit of vanilla, etc.

This has such an intense, wonderful dark chocolate flavor. Chocolate isn't added, but they utilized the chocolate malt really, really well here. This has a really nice roasty and charred flavor too. Just a really well-done imperial stout here.

This is medium bodied, not super thick, but not thin at all, with a creamy, dry, and roasty mouthfeel, and a lower level of carbonation.

A really well done beer, as expected from Voodoo.

Poured from a craft bottle for review, although I've had it on tap many times.

A - Dark brown (black!). Not a lot of head, but that's not the point of emphasis for this beer. It does have some great lacing.

S - Not incredibly strong. Definitely a chocolately and earthy aroma.

T - Like many imperial stouts, it has notes of chocolate and vanilla, although these are not strong. Like the smell, it has an earthiness to it - as in coffee. Has an acidity and bitterness on the back end similar to coffee, but not overwhelming.

F - Bit of acidity on the back end - Not the smoothest finish. Medium to full bodied.

O - A great, though imperfect, imperial stout. A bit more bitter with less head than many, although many cover that with a nitro pour (which this doesn't get that advantage). Not too boozy, quite enjoyable.

Had this on 2015-02-18 in Columbia, PA

A - Opaque dark brown with a 2.5-finger light brown head and very nice lace.

S - Milk and semi-sweet chocolate and lots of it. Vanilla ; mild coffee and oak.

T - Mocha/chocolate up front then plenty of roasted/char grain and associated bitterness. Alcohol adds some sweetness and just a bit of heat. There's some earthy spice and pepper underlying the chocolate and light coffee flavors. Finishes with a real nice cacao and hop/roasted bitterness.

M - Medium body and light-medium carbonation. Smooth and very creamy.

O - This is a fine Imperial Stout with a balanced and interesting flavor profile.
