A: Pours opaque black with hardly any head and spotty lacing.

N: Sweet dark fruits, dark chocolate, roasted barley and whiskey booziness.

T: Dark chocolate, raisin, overripe plum upfront. Mid-palate brings in huge roasted barley notes, some coconut and a hint of vanilla. Finishes with some huge whiskey notes, earth and a hint of citrusy hops. No real oak or typical bourbon notes are detected.

M: Medium bodied, sticky and warming. A little thinner than expected.

O: The first few sips I had thought that the boozy whiskey notes were too much but they definitely grew on me quickly. Very warming. The dark fruit notes really came out on this version of BBVD. I was a little disappointed that there wasn't much vanilla or oak though. Overall still a fantastic beer!

Out of a Firkin at The Hulmeville Inn, Pint Glass style.

BBVDAOJB&WR looks dark black looking like oil slick. Body is pretty viscous. The head was minimal but a lasting cap of bright tan foam that clung to the glass, nice retention for a BA? stout off a firkin.

From the aging process, whatever that may be here, I get some of the whiskey notes in scent. It detracts from the over abundant roasted/oaky scent of regular BBVD which is not a bad thing IMO. Some vanilla, chocolate, coffee comes in over time.

This is delicious beer. The original is great, the aging brings new flavors while keeping the original intact. In no particular order, bourbon, soaked oak chips, vanilla, roasted malt is big, slight char, wood, chocolate, faint espresso notes, old world characteristics.

I've noticed with the regular and this version that BBVD does not have the biggest body in the world of stouts. It's full and thick, just not DL thick. I would like a bit more depth in body, but Im just nitpicking. Cask like feel, no heat, nice.

Well Matt has done it again, I am always at least impressed by his beers. Some might be a bit unusual but always flavorful. BA BBVD has the makings to do do big things if more is made in the future. I drank my pint with ease and easily could of drank more of it.
