Limited brew on tap at Voodoo

Pours a clear rich golden with a half inch white head.

Smells of citrus and mildly bitter grainy malts.

Flavor is of honey and citrus malts with some bready and grassy malt undertones.

Medium bodied with a light tingly carbonation on the tongue.

Nice flavorful IPA with some good balance between malt and hop, fairly similar to the 4 seasons except for the sweeter honey notes. Worth trying if you can catch it.

Draft offering at Voodoo served in a shaped pint glass. Described as a west coast ipa. The brew appears a fairly clear light golden color with a white froth that leaves a spotty webbing of lace sticking to the glass.

The aroma suggests hoppiness smelling of tropical fruits pine and citrus/herbs. A faint grainy backing. The profile of the nose is all about the hops and rightfully so, it is enjoyable.

The taste is herbal and dank with hop flavoring before a rindy bitterness comes into play. It finishes dry and mildly grainy in flavor but for the most part, the fresh hop aspect is the driving character in the flavor.

This is a medium bodied offering with a modest amount of carbonation. The finish is clean, snappy and refreshing. The alcohol for being just over 8% was masterfully hidden. I would like to drink this again.

Review from notes. Consumed on “Barrel Release Day” March 23, 2013. I waited in line for hours for the privilege to purchase one of the first cases of the bottle release. Before being called up to purchase my case I enjoyed several of these beers on tap. I took specific notes for each of them and I will finally upload their reviews here on my beeradvocate account. Poured into a clean, clear pint glass at the brewery.

A Basic amber body with a good, creamy head. 4.0

S Hoppy smell but clearly a balanced IPA with plenty of barley malt to balance out the grapefruit hops smell. 4.0

T Hops were more prominent in the taste than the smell. I made a special note that this is the most hop forward beer of the Voodoo lineup that I can recall tasting. Again, though, they are presented well with a good balance. This is a “big” IPA with plenty of taste! 4.0

M Moderate to heavy hops increases feel. It is rather smooth with that creamy head as well. 4.0

D/O Drinkability is really good. I could have 3 or 4 of them without any problem. 4.0

Notes: I came here today for the barrel release beers but found this to be quite a nice surprise.
