"Grande Negro Voodoo Papi- A special batch of BBVD brewed with maple syrup, whole Madagascar vanilla beans, and cinnamon then aged on ghost chili peppers for just the right amount of heat."
Draft at Voodoo served in a barrel room collection snifter. The brew appears dark brown to black in color with a quick dissolving cap. Some faint bubbles hang around the edges and a rough swirl doesnt do much.
The aroma includes and unavoidable amount of raw cinnamon character that is almost like bark. It is strangely enjoyable smelling almost like it belongs there with some earth, roast and solvent booze character.
The flavor carries with it that sort of barky cinnamon flavor that is raw with almost an oak note. Some roast, earth and alcohol is all noted before the peppery inclusion. This is a unique mix but quite enjoyable.
This is a medium bodied brew with a modest level of carbonation in the feel but visually it is light to lacking. The more I drank this, the spicier it got. The addition of ghost peppers gave this the potential to be a nightmare, I am glad they showed restraint because the heat of the pepper combined with the alcohol started to become a chore half way through the glass. I would most certainly drink this again but in comparison to what else they had available, it was not as enjoyable.

22oz bottle poured into FFF teku glass. Thanks Don (DonFrap) for sharing this at our chili stout tasting where we consumed this alongside BA Abraxas, Mexican Cake variants, and the BA Dark Lord de Muerte variants. Bottle split 5 ways, reviewed from notes from a couple months ago.
A- Pours a pitch black, although not quite as viscous as the other stouts we were trying. A slight mocha head forms that leaves traces of spotty lacing.
S- Decent amount of chilies restrained and balanced with dark chocolate, coffee, cocoa powder, maple, vanilla, and an underlying sweetness from the apple brandy. Fairly aromatic, definitely more of a chili presence then the other beers we tried but still had a nice balance with the base beer without being too vegetal.
T- Opens up with a nice sweet dark chocolate, coffee, molasses, a hint of cinnamon and balanced chilies that provide a decent amount of heat yet remained nicely balanced with the base beer. Finishes with more coffee, a little bit more dark chocolate, and an apple brandy sweetness. Ghost peppers definitely make themselves known lending a bit of heat to the palate but they aren't over done and provide just the right amount of heat while still balancing with the sweetness of the base beer.
M- Extremely smooth, carbonation a little bit on the low end but nice for the style, chilies add a nice tingling sensation to the tongue that plays with the heat.
O- This beer was definitely a nice surprise and easily stood up against the other big chili stouts in the tasting, I might even say it was one of my favorites. Voodoo is making a name for itself through it's barrel-aging program and this beer definitely does not disappoint. Hopefully they release it again sometime soon.

Review from notes. Consumed on “Barrel Release Day” March 23, 2013. I waited in line for hours for the privilege to purchase one of the first cases of the bottle release. Before being called up to purchase my case I enjoyed several of these beers on tap. I took specific notes for each of them and I will finally upload their reviews here on my beeradvocate account. There is one thing that I am not sure of. My notes include the following comment: “BBVD brewed with Vanilla Beans and Cinnamon” (the BBVD probably refers to “Big Black Voodoo Daddy”). So I am pretty sure that note was meant for this beer but I could be mistaken. Poured into a snifter from the firkin tap at the brewery.
A No light comes through. The slightest of dark brown heads floats on top. Could the look be any better? 5.0
S Dark Roast Malt, sweet vanilla notes, excellent! 4.5
T Excellently crafted beer with Dark Roast malt carried right over from the smell. Also evident were the Ghost Peppers. I thought that it might be too much but it worked nicely with the soft, sweet vanilla. Now THIS is why I love Voodoo Brewing Company so much. 5.0
M Thick, velvety feel, expertly prepared and presented. 5.0
D/O Drinkability is unbelievably good for a beer of this style. I had no problem repeatedly sipping it until it was gone. Overall this is a world class beer. 5.0
