Lovely bottle presentation with the blue wax. Pour looks black, gloopy, dense deep brown head, looks tasty. Aroma tells another story, charred oak is juxtaposed with vast levels of green apple and solvent. Taste is overloaded with acetaldehyde with a background of heavy toasted oak, bitter chocolate. Medium to thick in body. This beer has bad off flavors. It was drainpoured. If you have a bottle, recommend waiting several years to see if oxidation helps reduce it.

22oz. waxed bottle (missing bottle number) into a Brooklyn Brewery snifter. Shared with schen9303.

Pours pretty thin. Frothy 1 finger grey-mocha head with moderate retention. Beer is pitch black. Lacing is thick, layered and web-like with very good stick. Great looking beer.

Nose is moderately boozy with hints to chocolate, cocoa powder and molasses. Sweet with a moderately hot background. Aromatic. Decent.

Opens slightly tart. A lot of barrel character. Boozy. Leather, oak and rotting wood. Tanic. Chocolate, cocoa, and molasses in the middle. End is slightly boozy with a light roasted malt, fudge, and chocolate. Aftertaste of molasses and cocoa. Decent.

Medium bodied with moderate to low carbonation. Thin and smooth in the mouth and goes down dry with some bubbles and a good bit of heat. Messy finish with a sticky aftertaste. Solid except for the thin body.

This one is starting to turn a bit. Nice complexity and barrel character but the body is too thin to support the flavors going on here. Still decent but the Voodoo Daddy variations really don't compare to the Black Majik set. Drink this one while its still decent.

650 mL bottle poured into a snifter. Bottle # 206.

Appearance - Not much of a head. Really no head at all. Viscous black.

Smell - Greenish woody aroma. Chocolate. Hefty bourbon. A little fruity.

Taste - Ack. Some apple flavors. Excessively oaky. Chocolate bitterness.

Mouthfeel - Not as thick as I'd like. Bitter and oaky.

Overall - Wow. Strange barrel flavors. Not very good.

Errrgh....it's infected. I hate to say it, but this sucker is gone. I've had all the BA BBVDs and BMs at this point, and I tried this one side by side with the others, and it's definitely infected, though it seems to be the only one of the varieties that is. I haven't opened my bottle yet, but based on the one I had for this review, I'd say drink 'em now, while you still can! (Or if you still can.)

Black stout-like color, as expected, with a foamy-to-fizzy topper of brown head that settled to a wispy, broken layer of bubbles; minimal lacing, if any at all. Smell was gnarly with wet wood and acetaldehyde, overlaid on roasty malts and a vague bourbon aroma. Definite hit of apple in the taste up front, rotting wood, perfume, solventy alcohol, woody malts, unsweetened cocoa, tobacco. Bleh. It's gone. Body came off as medium, lighter than any of the other varieties, including the base, mouthfeel was rough, and due to the apparent infection, it was pretty much undrinkable. I could power through it if I wanted to, but I'll just say, I hope it was a fluke and that other bottles are better.

Appearance: Pours black in color, but you can see some dark brown along the edges of my snifter if you hold it to a bright enough light. The head is light brown in color, and stood less than a finger tall.

Aroma: Bourbon, Oak, Apple Core, Roasted Malts, and a touch of Coffee.

Taste: More of the same... Right up front, you're reminded of the base beer, but huge notes of bourbon, oak, and a strong "apple" flavor aren't far behind! I'm getting some sweetness towards the middle, along with a touch of dark chocolate. There's a little bit of bitterness from the roasted malts on the finish to help balance the beer.

Mouthfeel: I'd say it's right around medium for a barrel aged beer. It's not as thick as the Buffalo Trace Black Magick, but it's not thin either. Soft carbonation.

Morey's Bottom Line: Another tasty beer from the Barrel Room Collection. Really great barrel character. I drank this with 2 friends, and we were all picking up on a nice apple flavor in this beer. Cheers!

Bottle number 294 poured into matching barrel collection snifter.

A: Not quite opaque/black in color with dark brown ring along the edges of the glass. Minimal to zero head with an occasional short lived bubble if swirled vigorously.

S: Despite this being the Buffalo Trace treatment of BBVD, the aroma is straight forward apple brandy. Basically sour green apples with prominent ethanol. That being said, I enjoy apple brandy so I found it quite pleasant and the smell was the favorite part of the beer for me.

T: Fresh green apples meets oak, dark chocolate, and roasted malt. Mild amounts of sweet vanilla flavors appear as it warms but not getting as much bourbon as you would expect from such a notable bourbon as Buffalo Trace. The finish is smooth and refreshing for such a heavy beer, but mild amounts of oxidized cardboard are detectable as well.

M: Medium to thin body for a 12%'er but not unreasonably thin. Minimal carbonation.

O: An enjoyable enough beer now but I would recommend drinking soon if you have one in your cellar. I suspect the green apple taste is acetaldehyde from some mild contamination that probably will get worse with time. Additionally cardboard flavors are already showing up which is a red flag for me against aging further.

A - Black, small head. Served in a mini-snifter.

S - Chocolate, bourbon, roasted malt. Not overly complex, but smells nice.

T - Not sure what these reviews about green apple flavors are about? Didn't get any of that. It's a solid BA stout imo.

M - Lighter side of full. Certainly not a full bodied beer, but thick enough for the style.

O - I think this is a good beer, right on par with the Apple Brandy version, but neither is as good as the PVW version.
