Surprised I'm the first to review this one. Bottle from the Voodoo Barrel Room Release. Bottle #120. 22oz. green waxed bomber into a Brooklyn Brewery snifter. Shared with schen9303.

Pours a .5 finger fine white head with moderate retention. Beer is a clear, deep bronze. Lacing is patchy and stringy with little stick. Thick, oily, nice looking legs though. Decent overall but I want more head and lacing with this style.

Nose is very interesting. Sweet overripe apple, brandy booziness in the back. Cane sugar sweetness and Belgian yeast to finish things off. Aromatic, in-your face and delicious!

Where to begin? Opens apple brandy booze sting. Apple seeds, fresh apples and pear in the middle. Some cane sugar and clove sweetness towards the middle with notes of apple cider. End is booze and clove, and Belgian yeast sweetness. Aftertaste of apple brandy and cane sugar. I'm not really sure how I feel about what's going on with this beer, but it sure is interesting.

Medium bodied with moderate to high carbonation. Lively and aggressive in the mouth and hot and boozy going down. Finishes messy with a long, lingering, dry aftertaste. Nice.

This is one of the most interesting beers I've ever come across. The style is perfect for accepting and really displaying the Apple Brandy barrel aging and as a result, it presents a set of flavors that I've never come close to experiencing with any other beer. Definitely worth a try for better or for worse.

650 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Deep orange. Slightly hazy. Small white head.

Smell - Tons of apple brandy. Granny smith apples and alcohol.

Taste - Strong apple brandy. Super strong. Malty. Some grain, but it's faint. A little fruity, not just the apple.

Mouthfeel - Boozy. Medium body. Medium low carbonation.

Overall - It's all apple brandy.

This poured a grainy red cider like hue with a bright white fizzy head.

The scents are so varied with maple, green Apple, sorghum, figs, apricots and caramel malt. The only thing holding it back is the ton of booziness you have to wade through to find the aromas.

The tastes are varied but seem to bee completely different. I found a lot of honey sweetness accompanied by a candied honey like a Bit O' Honey candy. The flavors then turn sour with an Apple cider and a wine taste. Again the booze tempers the overall experience.

The feel is sprite, light and misery but plenty smooth.

What a bizarre beer this turned out to be. The Apple brandy barrels did a lot to create great flavors but in turn probably added the booze that kept this from being great.

Poured from the bottle into a snifter glass at the tasting. Much thanks to K for the goods!

Extremely pale yellow, nearly straw body, no lacing and some cloudy character. Not to much head and some very faint white collar produced.

Very boozy but impressive nose. Apple skin, luckily not getting into it seems acetaldehyde territory though, but with a big pie crust brown bread like match. Even some cinnamon sneaks out. It really does come off like baked apple pie, and fresh! But the boozy quality feels cheap and this comes off a bit un beer like.

Palate doesn't deliver though. Hot and boozy, almost like a mule wine and very cidery tasting. Classic apple but comes off like cheap flavored vodka and hot. Extremely weak body and very watery, like weak proofed whiskey, and very fleeting. Almost mouth burning finish.

So this is a tripel? one of my fav styles, who could tell? I can't even tell there is any Belgian sweetness, yeast, malt. It's overpowering and way too strong coming off like a cheap spirit. It's aroma is impressive but the beer character just disappeared under this thing.
