Not the tip-top, but definitely worth the purchase and the experience. I'd have it again, gladly.
Bottle from the Hendersonville (NC) Food Co-Op, served in a Unibroue tulip glass.
Appearance: golden, apple-juice color. Thick, foamy, meringue-ish head, and a bit cloudy throughout. Immediately it says, "pay attention to me!"
Nose: A veritable smorgasbord of olfactory delights is the calling card of this Quad. Apples, cherries, spring lavender fields, faint mild hops, and a pleasant oat-grain hint all greet the nose and say, "dive in!"
Taste: "oooohhh" is my initial reaction -- caramel, raisin, almond, the slightest bit of butterscotch, and a strong reminiscence of oloroso sherry greet my tongue. A warm finish that reminds me of fine wood rounds it out. Definitely on the sweet side, but I'm impressed by how the 11+ % alcohol is so well masked.
Palate: Dry like champagne, bubbly all the way through -- nice.
Overall: quite nice, a bit sweet but not cloyingly so. A definite winner.
Pairing suggestions: good with mild goat cheeses. I'm imagining it a solid winner with: grilled scallops, creme brulee, salmon, pork terrine/chops (esp. with cherry sauce), duck with cherries, sweetish mushroom napoleon, or a fruit tray: apples, pears, kiwi fruit.

A: loose foam from start to finish....reddish-brown, relatively clear till a few yeasts slipped in....
S: clean ,vodka-like booze... some light, raisin-y fruit.... mellow yet full floral nuance... overall, nice but somewhat subdued
T: super-smooth, velvety-flowery, cookie-ish malt.... brown sugar, granola, background raisin.... superbly mellow and balanced - flavors don't explode, but excellent, nonetheless
M: ethanol-attenuated medium-light body.... subtle, spongy foam wash with each sip... easy-drinking - airy and light around a compact, satiny flow.... fairly restrained swell of boozy warmth midway through each sip
O: one that doesn't bombard the senses with flavor.... gotta let it sit for awhile for it to open up.... even then, dry and quite mellow... nice, if you're digging the subtleties and simply want to quell the swelling in your brain
