Tried this classic Belgian IPA on tap at Beer Revolution in Calgary, 12 oz. as memory serves. A burnished gold color with a slight reddish tint and a finger or so of white foam. Surprisingly fruity aroma with the requisite dose of Belgian yeasty spice, although to my sniffer the hops steal the show ... Some toffee and whiskey notes underneath gummy bears, nectarine, orange, pineapple, kiwi, clove. Sweet for the style despite the hoppy power on the nose. I get a healthy dose of cantaloupe and butterscotch with some pine needles to complement the clove-like medicinal burn. It is indeed bitter but the butterscotch and fruit elements really dial this aspect down for me. The complexity on the nose does not quite translate perfectly onto the palate but I'm not really complaining. Some alcohol detectable on nose and palate. Body on the high end of medium, with mellow gentle carbonation. Quite a nice brew that I would seek out again. My impression does not jive that well with the written impressions of the masters like Micheal Jackson, who emphasize the bitterness. Aw well. Gustatory impressions differ across tasters, and these guys probably haven't blasted their taste buds with modern DIPAs to the extent I have. YMMV.

Butter on the nose with a creamy ale texture on the tongue. Fantastic for drinking all day or paried with a light salad or fresh panini press

Review according to BJCP 2008 guidelines (style 18D). Aroma: light sweet malt aroma, honey alcohol and spices. Very subtle hop aroma and esters (orange like). moderate alcohol aroma. Appearance: deep gold with material in suspension, so not clear. white creamy head with good retention and lacing. Taste: bitter taste from hops (this is a special blond) that linger to the finish. Medium bitterness balanced with high alcohol content. Some orange zest flavor present. dry finish and moderate bitter aftertaste. Palate: medium-high carbonation with medium body, giving a creamy sensation. Overall: a complex blend of aromas and flavours that combine well together.

330ml Bottle from Good Spirits Co, Glagow (£4):
Bright, golden amber with a slight haze & a 1.5cm, foamy white head with excellent retention, it holds steady for even after I started drinking the beer.

Light spice & yeast the medium strength citrus hops with pine & grapefruit. Some sweetness, mainly from some sugar & background fruits, mainly oranges & some pineapple with subtle hints of alcohol then some earthy hops & grassy notes at the end.

Hops, citrus & pine hops to begin alongside the spice & yeast. Orange & some grapefruit feature & it's well balanced with some sugar from the fruits as well. Some herbal & floral flavours come through with hints of alcohol at the end.

Almost full bodied. It's smooth with touches of alcohol without being too boozy or hard to drink. Sweet throughout with low carbonation.

A fairly good example of a Belgian IPA with more hops than I'd anticipated. Easy to drink & the dry hopping definitely made a difference with this one. Definitely a beer worth looking out for.
