Born from the traditions of England, this flavorful ale has the balance that the Queen could be proud of. Our Nut Brown is bronze in color with a velvety smooth taste and subtle chocolate note. Lower alcohol content and subtle hoppiness makes it the perfect beer to enjoy during the day, night or whenever you desire a great ale.

A down the center pour resulted in about 1/2 finger of light tan head sitting atop a rapidly bubbling dark brown beer. The head faded fast and lacing was not evident. When held to a light the deep red color around the edges of this Nut brown is very pretty.

Aroma is of nuts and dark malt. No hints of the Tettnang or Glacier hops mentioned on the bottle. Taste is also nutty and a bit chocolaty. Some noticeable hops in the finish, but this one finishes fast and clean.

This beer has nice body and is perfectly carbonated. It could easily be sessioned if the need arose.

So far this is the best offering from Mountaineer in my humble and uneducated opinion.

Nut brown in every way. Nutty color, smell, and taste, with nice chocolate and toffe flavors reminiscent of a Heath bar. Rich and satisfying, sweet but not cloying. Good bitterness to balance the sweet, and almost no hop aroma. A good example of the style.

appearance: pours a clear, orange-brown with light carbonation, very little white foam and a very thin ring of lacing.

smell: a malty, semisweet scent with chocolate and slightly toasty undertones standing out, complemented by a slight bitter sensation tickling the nose.

taste: begins clean and fresh, with mellow maltiness developing through the middle and finish, with a very light but noticeable chocolate flavor; the hops become present towards the finish, with a lingering that is more crisp than bitter.

drinkability: mellow yet with sufficient character, ingredients are fresh and well-complemented, definitely a beer that you can enjoy many of in one sitting.

Pours from the bottle dark brown starts with about a 3/4 inch tan head that slowly leaves.
Smell is of Sweet Malts and Molasses, nuts and Caramel.
Taste is of sweet Malts and Caramel with hints of Coffee very nice finish with just a touch of Bitterness, slight nut flavor just enough.
Very smooth and refreshing in your mouth easy to drink and leaves a good flavor in your mouth that says have another one.

Overall I have to give this one a 4.0

Thanks to Santa Adam for this brew. I poured it into a pint glass and was greeted with a finger worth of tan head that faded away to nothing. The body of brew was dark brown in color. Big old malt sweetness in the nose with a light touch of molasses. The flavor was more of the same finishing with a light roast bitter. The only pitfall with this brown was the mouthfeel was a little light for me but it did have good carbonation to it.
I think if the brewery works on the mouthfeel they have a stellar brew. It was a easy to drink brown, and I would drink again

A- Pours dark brown, hardly any head and no lacing.

S- Faint smell of roasted malts and a hint of chocolate.

T- Roasteds malts, caramel, almond, chocolate on the back end. Must admit, the taste was much better than expected after the bland appearance. However overall, a little thin for me.

M- Good, foamy, goes down easy.

D- This is a dark beer that I could easily drink more than one of. Overall, a good beer!

A. Pours brown with some orange hues with a small tan head that leaves no residual lacing.

S. Chocolate and caramel.

T. Chocolate with caramel and sweet malt.

M. Fairly thin with a high level of carbonation.

D. A decent, but not great. It should also be noted that the first bottle of the six pack was infected; it had an interesting sour cherry brown ale flavor going on, but it clearly wasn't intentional.

Poured from 12oz bottle into 16oz Samuel Adams Perfect Pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a cola color with a large, foamy tanned head that dissipates quickly and bubbles up a lot, and leaves behind spotty lace.

Smell: Sweet brown sugar smells, molasses, caramel, and some light nut.

Taste: Beginjs with a light sugary sweetness, finishing with light bitterness and lots of nut flavors.

Mouthfeel: Lighter, somewhat watery body with light carbonation and a watery finish.

Drinkability: A decent beer- nothing spectacular, but definitely drinkable and pleasant. A good session beer.

I got this at Ashebrooke in Morgantown. It pours a very dark brown with some off-white head. The smell is of nuts and the taste is very roasty, slightly chocolatey, but still predominantly nutty. Mouthfeel is medium dry and its a drinkable beer for those who love nuts.

Appearance: clear dark amber in color with a 1" head that falls to a spotty foam.

Smell: caramel and a hint of nuttiness produced a light aroma.

Taste: toffee, a bit of fruit sweetess, roasted nuts, and a mild bitterness creates a decent flavored beer.

Mouthfeel: lighter side of a medium bodied beer. Lightly crisp to start, smooth at the finish. Comes off a little thin overall.

Drinkability: easy to consume this beer, especially with the lighter mouthfeel.

A beer whose flavor is its best feature. Pours a clear brown with a short lived soda fizz head. Aromas are toasty and bit cocoa-ish. Tastes very good, with lots of milk chocolate notes sweetening the toasty malts. Chocolate lingers nice and long on the finish. The body is sadly lacking and feels watery. The flavor is good enough that I would consider buying another pack.

Served in a Devil's Backbone willibecher.

I'm not familiar with the Mountaineer Nut (tee hee). Must be a WV thing. This guy pours a clear ruby-burnt sienna (now there's a mouthful of a color) topped by a finger of off-white foam. The nose comprises burnt toffee, coffee, greens, wood (you heard me, generic wood), and what seems like faint floral notes. The taste holds notes of walnuts, greens, flowers, and woody toffee. It's all pretty tame and forest-y, almost chalky at times, and not good enough to really rise above the level of "average". The body is medium, with a moderate carbonation and a rather dry finish. Overall, a decent brown, but nothing to write home about...even from WV itself.

I thought this beer was a very smooth and tasty beer. I am not sure what other beer I could compare it too except maybe Bass Ale. It is a pretty well rounded beer but might be just a little bit too lite for me.
Just seems like it might be missing a little bit of a body and some other flavor notes.

Many thanks to Alex for sharing this West Virginian brew with me.

A – It pours a nice brown hue; very clear. It's topped with an eggshell-colored finger of foam.

S – The smell is very toasty and nutty. Pretty damn good.

T – The taste is a follow-up on the nose; quite bright, toasty-bready, with notes of roasted chestnuts and small chocolate and toffee nuances.

M – On the refreshing side of medium-bodied.

D – Perusing the reviews, I feel that people are being too harsh towards this beer. Its not amazing, but how many straightforward EBA are? The brew is right-on for the style: mild, slightly sweet, unobtrusive, fully sessionable

Thanks to thorpe429 for this one - a bottled offering from the only production brewery in West Virginia. Served in a pint glass.

A - Well - it looks alright. Pours with a few fingers of quick-dissipating foam that leaves a thin ring and some light haze. A transparent light cola body with lots of tiny bubbles fills out this category.

S - Smells like cola - sarsaparilla and vanilla I think, mixed with a touch of molasses. There's also some brown sugar too. Very sweet, and not as bad as I expected.

T - The taste is very bready, with notes of toffee, cocoa, and nuts. It actually tastes a lot like some bocks I've had. Pretty average, and largely inoffensive.

M - Body is a little watery - I'm guessing this is pretty low in the ABV department. The body is a touch grainy, but the carbonation is thankfully mild and soft. The residual feel is a little sticky.

D - Nothing wrong with this beer, other than the fact that there are countless better ones. If I was stuck in the backwoods in West Virginia I'd be more excited about it I suppose. A pretty inoffensive way to knock off a challenging state.

A - Pours a medium brown color with some amber that shows around the edges. Very clear. The tan head is medium sized and doesn't really stick around for too long. Some lacing stays behind in the glass. Not bad overall.

S - Aroma is mild. It starts with a combination of caramel and faint nuttiness. Metallic in the middle. I do believe there is a note of dark bread on the tail end. Once again, mild. Pretty average overall though.

T - Flavor pretty much fits square within the style. Caramel stands out inn front with a quick punch of roasted nuts that quickly follows. It's sweet and sugary in the middle. Alcohol shows up on the tail end but it's hard to pick up if you aren't looking for it.

M - Lighter bodied with a lighter carbonation level. Finish is a little sweet and doesn't hang around at all. It's not bad bot not really that good either.

D - Drinkability is pretty good (given the scores for the other categories). This one seems to be a decent representation of the style. It does disappear quickly. I'm guessing there is a low abv here which could make it a brew to be enjoyed for an entire session. complexity does not seem to be here but it's worth a try nonetheless.

Amber/brown in color. Nice finger off-white head that slowly falls to a thick film crowning the beer. Looks promising.
Smells like toasted malts. Maybe a faint nuttiness in the aroma. Smells pretty good, I just wish the aroma was stronger.
Taste and mouthfeel are light and bland. While not a bad beer it is lacking in complexity and body. Faint toasted flavor. With some caramel. Just a small hint of the nuttiness on the back-end. This beer is a bit watery and seriously lacking in body.
It's not a bad beer but I wouldn't call it a good one either.
