Not for the hop heads out there. This dark brown beer has no hop aroma and very little in the finish (just enough so it isn't cloying). It is very malty and smooth with a lot of caramel and some nuttiness. There is also a hint of peaty smoke. A very nice 80 Shilling.

Had this at the brewery poured into a shaker pint glass. Dark brown look with a 1 finger head which dissipated rather quickly, but did leave some lacing. Slight, smokey aroma with no hop presence. Mild, smokey flavor that goes down very smooth.

Not sure what an "authentic" Scotch Ale is supposed to taste like, so I cannot make any type of comparison, but I enjoyed this beer and would order i again.

Pours hazed brown with mahogany hues. A creamy tan head leaves plenty of lacing in its descent to a thin, lasting cover.

The smell is of lightly roasted nuts, toffee and mild earthy notes. Very mild.

The taste is malty - chocolate/toffee with a touch of nuts and mild smoke. It has a hint of whisky in the dry finish. Notes of chocolate linger a bit.

It has a creamy, light side of medium, body. Very smooth.

A nice, malty brew.

Had on cask at the bar one night.

A - Comes out a nice rich amber color. Cask pour leaves a nice foam head on there with nice lacing effect on the glass.

S - Clean smelling with some malts on the nose.

T - A nice smooth taste of sweet malts. Not overpowering, well balanced malty taste.

M - Medium body, easy going in the mouth.

D - Goes down nice and smooth. Good session ale for when I;m not in a hoppy mood.

came out a dark rusty color with a decent off white head.... very malty in the nose and that is very noticable in the mouth as well... a very smooth beer that has roasted characteristics...medium to full bodied...a nice one to enjoy with dinner and afterwards with the boys

Served at just over fridge temperature in an imperial pint glass.

Appearance- Cola brown with reddish highlights. Creamy, light tan lead standing one finger thick, settling to a thin mat. Lacing is light and sporadic.

Smell- Roasted malt character, very much like a schwarzbier. One-dimensional, not much else going on.

Taste- First, a biscuity malt note that evolves rather quickly into a roasty, burnt (again, schwarzbier-like) character. Finishes quick with just a hint of hops and a lingering roasted taste.

Mouthfeel/Drinkability- Medium in the mouth, nothing detrimental. The overall lack of complexity and uninspiring recipe doesn't make this example of a Scottish Ale stand out at all.

Wow, an 80 Shilling! I don't know if I will ever know the difference between an 80 and a 90 Shilling beer. Inflation? Pours a dark brown color with a medium thin light beige head. Strong malt and caramel aroma. Medium-bodied and a little smokey, with a nice malt presence. There is also a tiny bit of hops lingering around. The finish didn't seem to keep up very well but overall I liked this one.

Dark brown in color with an off-white head and nice lace. Big malty aroma, no hop at all in the nose. Medium body with a smooth mouthfeel. Lots of malt flavor with hints of caramel and smoke. Very little hops in flavor, as is the case with the aroma. Goes down real nice and more drinkable then other Scotch Ales.
