Thanks to RutgersBeerGuy for this one via GATM

A.Very dark brown almost black with tan head that is quickly gone. not much lacing around glass.

S. Roasted malts, toffee, bitter chocolate, and a subtle smoke

T. Wow. the smoky flavor is present and accounted for. A fantastic smoked taste, with hints of toffee chocolate, oatmeal, and spice.

M. Mouthfeel is full and smooth. Very good

D. slammed the first 16oz. down and going back for another. very session friendly.

All in all a fantastic representation of a smoked porter. Glad to have the opportunity to have tried this one

Appearance: Almost pitch black with a tan head that becomes a large patch. Some lacing sticks.

The smell is of smoke, dark malt - oatmeal with chocolate and coffee.

The taste is smokey dark malt - chocolate and coffee. Sweet, but with a roasty and slightly bitter balance.

I was going to say it is thin, but it is a porter and not a stout, and it holds on to medium bodied. And, it is creamy with lingering smokey character.

Tasty - the smoked character works well - present, but not overbearing - allowing chocolate and coffee notes to come through nicely.

I have to say, I am a frequenter of the Moon, and this is my favorite dark beer that they have ever popped out.

A: Not quite as dark as I had thought it would be but tasted as if it was. The head was pretty sticky and hung on well

S: Nutty, oatey smell with an awesome smokiness

T: Not sure really how to describe aptly, but the smokiness was clear and each sip became more delicious. Looked like a porter but really had a stoudy feel taste that was great.

M: Perfect thickness. Uniqueness left the last couple sips incredibly enjoyable and was much better when warmed up a bit.

D: Enjoyed many and look forward to many more. Earned itself a growler purchase.

(went well with bbq calamari)

look: 4.5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 4 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.5

Appearance: dark brown almost black in color with a 2" head that sticks around a while. Thick lace paints the glass.

Smell: roasted malts, a hint of smoke and chocolate.

Taste: roasted malts, chocolate, oats, a very soft smokey tone, and a mild bitterness makes up a very tasty brew.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied. Smooth and creamy throughout.

Drinkability: this beer is extremely easy to consume, and the lighter smokiness makes this a very accessable beer for those that do not like smoked beers.

A - deep brown with ring of head in sample glass.

S - campfire and wet mulch, but still good.

T - less aggressively smoked than some other beers but still obvuously smoked. After the initial smoked flavor is a light porter, slight chocolately thin going on in finish.

M/D - light body which is fine, lowish abv too for abrew they could have gotten stupid and big with but stayed classy.

I was able to get this beer at Harvest Moon on 3/22/2008. They served it to me in a standard pint glass.

This Smoked Porter poured a great midnight black that had a 1/2 inch head of foam that was a light tan color. This light tan colored head of foam had OK retention that left behind foamy rings along the edge and a few spots of lace around the glass. It had a great smoky aroma of smoked wood, smoked malts, olives, dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, and just the slightest touch of caramel at the finish. Although the aroma was heavy on smoked flavors, the taste however was only lightly smoky and featured only roasted malts and oats, roasted coffee beans, subtle chocolate, and a quick splash of roasted hops in the end. It's too bad the taste was as smoky as the aroma. That would have been great! It was a dark medium bodied beer with an aftertaste of dark roasted malts, roasted coffee beans, and roasted hops. Although the taste wasn't as smoky as the aroma, it's still worth a shot at Harvest Moon.
