Called American Joe schwarzbier. On tap at brewpub.
Arrives in a pint glass with a half finger of foam. Nearly pitch black in color. Aroma is nice sweet dark plum like malts. First sip is very clean with no roasted or burnt flavors and a nice medium bodied clean tasting dark lager.
Not many places make a schwarzbier, and harvest moon's ranks up there with the best American made varieties. A solid choice anytime I'm here.

Poured from a growler filled about a week or so ago into a pint glass.
Appearance: Yielded a nice 1.5 finger tan head, amost like espresso style that dissapated quickly. Nice lacing coated the glass. Very dark, yet mildly translucent against the light.
Smell: Smells like roasted espresso meets burnt chocolate... good malty aromas.
Taste: great tasting beer. Its like a combination between a helles and a stout almost. Its got nice upfront coffee and chocolate and espresso flavors followed by smoothed out and mellowed hops and wheaty backgrounds.
Mouthfeel: A little put off by the massive carbonation and stickyness of this beer. Not horrible, but definately not at the better end of the spectrum.
Drinkability: Delicious beer. Its very "light" for its appearance and I could session this as I will continue to finish this growler by the end of the night. Not heavy at all as its appearance suggests so.

This was on tap at Harvest Moon on 11/22/2008. Their little beer profile sheet said that it had an ABV% of 5.3%. They served it to me in a pint glass.
This Harvest Moon beer poured a solid coal black color. I held it up to the light and it was truly a solid black color. No light could penetrate this beer's black color. On top of this black beer was a 1/2 an inch light tan colored head of foam. This head had decent retention that left behind foamy tan rings and a small amount of tan blots of lace. The aroma was lightly roasted and slightly on the sour side with dark roasted malts, a speck of caramel, a hint of ripe banana, a touch of sweet yeast, and a dark fruit or two hiding in the background. The taste was lightly dry, mildly roasted, and slightly sour with dry roasted malts, a subtle touch of sweet caramel, a slight hint of dark fruits, and then finishes up with some lightly bitter floral hops. Toward the end it got more dry than roasted. This Schwarzbier was medium bodied with a dry roasted aftertaste of roasted malts, lightly bitter and crispy floral hops, and a hint of yeast. In the end this was a nice dry and roasted German Lager. I thought Harvest Moon did a great job with the Schwarzbier style. I would drink this one again.
