Ahh the old standby. When I was younger and fancied myself a punk rocker, this was my beer of choice. Moshing to loud music in a dirty basement of the local youth center. Ahhhh, memories.
Having said that, this is an absolutely mediocre Koelsch. Nothing wrong with it, to be sure, to be sure. It's been described as not being a designer Koelsch, but in a good way. I am inclinded to agree with this assessment. A nicely drinkable brew in a style meant to be drank with abandon.
Drink it with friends and be merry.

On gravity at the Sion Brauhaus in Köln.

Pours like a typical Kölsch with a clear gold body and an airy white head. Retention and lacing are better than other examples.

Smells of pils primarily, with hops and a light sweetness that's barely noticeable. This is all echoed in the taste. The pils malt dominates.

Mouthfeel is, as usual, on the watery side.

Overall a really drinkable beer, but not the best kölsch.

330ml bottle. Lager glass. Enjoyed on dec´11. Bright gold in color & crystal clear appearance. White, small bubbled froth creates a close & creamy lasting crown. Nice lacing rings & collars. Pale malts & noble hops to the nose. Balanced flavor of malts getting along with hops. Even though dry finish shows hop´s victory. Light but flavorful body, soft carbonation. Refreshing with a nice drinkability.

Well, much like the rest of the "amazing world of kölsches", this representation of the style, for me (and only me) leaves much to be desired. Weak straw pour with a fizzy head that makes it look like a soda. The smell, beyond the average is only the presence of some citrus to it-lemony i'd say, but isn't all that appealing.

The taste is just as disappointing for the weakness in actual body is reflected in the wateryness of the actual taste that concludes with a mediocre amount of hops just leaving you to your disappointment.

A: Translucent gold with a one-finger head. No lacing to speak of.

S: The standard Kölsch lager-in-an-ale scent.

T: Very bracing bitter pils-like taste. Exactly what one would expect from the style.

M: Medium mouthfeel with medium carbonation

D: Well, at .2l, you can put away quite a few of these.

Kölsch seems to be highly affected by oxydation, so that the taste keeps altering by every sip you take .... this is probably the reason for the slightly unusual Kölsch glassware (which would keep contact to air to a minimum) .... the first sip I took from this one had a pleasant sweetness (dried figs, plum, marchpane) in the palate and an equally pleasant almondy bitterness in the aftertaste ... leaving the beer for a few minutes in the glass turns the bitterness into a bland sourness ... so keep up with drinking ...

Had on draft at the Sudhaus in Bonn, Germany

A: Good clarity, just a few shades from crystal clear. Golden color with a bright white head with low retention, spotty lacing on the edge of the straight walled Kolsch glass.

S: Low aroma with mild pilsner malt and bread with very low fruity, lager like esters.

T: Very light flavor profile. Crisp and clean with fruity yeast esters again. Light bready malt profile with threshold levels of noble hop character. Slightly sweet with no tartness in the finish.

M: Very soft mouthfeel (low mineral water?) with pleasant carbonation on the low end of the spectrum. Extremely drinkable, light body with no alcohol or harshness, creamy and smooth.

O: Not the most flavorful Kolsch, but very, very drinkable.

From oak barrel @Sion Brauhaus in Köln.
Golden color, clean and limpid.
White foam, two fingers, in style.
Not so strong smell, but pleasant and elegant, with notes of malt and hop, more assertive in the taste.
Soft, but still quite dry.
Dry aftertaste, too, with a good freshness, for a very good drinkability.
