Bottle > Pint Glass

A - Slightly hazed yellow gold with half a finger of foamy white head, no lacing.
S - Sweet malt, light pine, a tad astringent, some faint citrus
T - Creamy sweet malt, a little bready, some citrus zest, a hint of floral notes.
M - Bitter a little soapy and definitely chewy.
O - Just a really lame east coast style IPA

Bottle poured into Young's nonic pint.

A- thick, dense, khaki head. Slightly hazed, deep golden body with light carbonation. Great retention. A sloppy pour settled into a dense, 1-finger foam. Awesome stick.

S- balanced. Cracker-like malts and flowery/grassy hops.

T- More balance, though definitely hoppy. Ritz crackers. Mix of grassy, grapefruit, and lighter/spicy hops. Maybe a touch floral, like an herbal tea. Some grain. A touch of aspirin.

M- medium-full body. Lightly carbonated. Nice, hoppy bite. Dry.

O- A real easy drinker. Nicely balanced. A good American example of the English style. Received as a sixer as a gift. Something I would buy if it were available.

Undated 12 oz. bottle. Purchased for ~$1.75 at BeerCrazy in Des Moines.

Appearance - hazy, golden straw. Resembles a cream ale. Seems to be a lot of yeast or perhaps a thick protein haze.

Smell - faintest amount of citrus. Could use some improvement here.

Taste - sharply bitter if you were revewing this as an English IPA. Doesn't have that malt backgroudn one would expect. After reading their description on the website and considering the hops they used I don't think it was intended as English. As an American IPA, it's pretty drinkable and the crisp, sharpness of the hops and the pithe and citrus in the middle of the taste is its best quality.

Mouthfeel - lingering oils. Might be just a hair more carb'd than the IBUs need in this one.

Overall - it's decent. I like a good amount of aroma and found that disappointing. Seems like a lot of cascade hops as well, which are a classic treat.

Again, thank you to the ever so thoughtful KMitch for supplying a growler of this to share. We cracked the top, pouring a brew of solid apricot orange into flared Heineken pils glasses. A one and a half finger tall head of snow white, soapy and cakey bubbles was noted to show excellent retention. A chill haze cut clarity, but in the absence of sediment. Carbonation appeared to be active. The aroma gave notes of wonderfully sweet and robust citric and nectary hop resins, soft pale and lightly toasted grain, white sugar sweetness, lemon, apple, mango, and pineapple fruitiness, earthen clay, soft plastics, pine sap, clover honey, and lactic creaminess. Our first impression was that the flavoring was just as clean and sweet as the nose would suggest, but without too much bitterness of the hops so as to throw off the balance. As we sipped, the taste began with piney and citric hops, nectarine and mango fruitiness, Band-Aid phenols, soft booziness, and chalky metallics. These blended and enhanced through the middle, with continued fruitiness of apricot, nectarine, and juicy lemon flesh, herbal parsley oils, perfumed flora and earthy-pined hops, English pales and crystal maltiness, and orange rind bitters. The finish came with licorice spiciness, mint leaf, clean and warming booziness, white sugar sweetness, cider vinegar, cigar wraps, chlorine, phenolic plastics, pineapple and mango flesh fruitiness, and coin. The aftertaste breathed of pine sap, kiwi skins, saltine crackers, honey and confectioner’s sugar sweetness, pineapple and peach juiciness, metallic yeastiness, authentic strawberry flesh, floral, piney, and citric hop resins, and clean pale grain wash. The feel was light and airy, with solidly medium body, and medium carbonation. Each sip gave creamy slurp and smack, but lesser froth, cream, or poppy glug. The mouth was left coated and cooled, with light astringent tug across the back of the tongue. The abv was appropriate, and the beer drank quite well.

Overall, the best thing about this beer was its flavoring. We had a bit of a shock when we first opened this beer, took a whiff, and sipped it because, generally speaking, it has that same luster of fresh hoppy goodness possessed by both Sucks and Heady Topper. Things were fruity, fresh, and confidently smooth, and it tasted just like it smelled. The hops throughout were thickly resinous and heady, with sticky oiliness that went on for days. That said, as the beer warmed, and with a second serving of it, it began to fade. The edges seemed just a bit cheaper, with more metallics and less smoothness to the sip. That said, we were transiently enhanced by this one, but it just didn’t seem to possess that reproducibility and longevity that keeps you coming back to your favorite beers time and time again.
