12oz bottle with no bottled on or freshness date poured into a pint glass.

A: Pours a clear very light golden color with no carbonation at all.
S: No Hop aroma at all was not sure if I was drinking an IPA or a Miller Lite.

T: pale malt, some yeast, maybe very little herbal hops.

M: Smooth and clean and no carbonation.

O: If you are going to call a beer an IPA you need to be able to smell and taste the hops. This was a far cry from an IPA. It was lacking lots of hop aroma and if I didn't know what style it was I would think I was drinking a light lager. (564 characters)

Very light copper, transparent. Macro carbonation, minimal lacing.

Ack. Maybe this is a bad bottle. Metallic, light grapefruit. Undesirable all over the place.

Well, some assembelence here. First is unfermented sugars, though not malt. Almost like table sugar, but not too sweet. Some hops, feels like there was no effort here. Light malt, maybe corn syrup.

Nothing. Not realy a lot here. Very wet. No ABV present.

Hate to say this, but it tastes like an IPA Bud/Miller/Coors would make. Nothing preset.

I refuse to believe any brewer would realease this. Im adding it to my wants list since as I want to give them another chance since this review is going to be wicked horrible.

I might just pour this (708 characters)

This beer was split from Cricket Hill's variety pack with a couple BAs at work. It poured a bright orange in color, very light, and very clear with a light off white head. It smelled of pale malt with a light orange twist. This beer literally just arrived but it smelled like a skunked Dortmunder. There was ZERO hop presence at all. This beer is definitely not an IPA, not even an English one. This beer has the hop profile of Miller Lite. It drank very light and thin. It didn't have any of the stickyness or dryness that you get from most IPAs. This beer was an awful interpretation of the style. (599 characters)

New to the area, so I decided to give it a try. Pours a clear, copper color with minimal head that gives way quickly. Aroma is of weak grains and a very bitter and slightly metallic smell. Taste is of off tasting bitterness, slight citrus hop flavors, metallic notes, hop spices. Aftertaste is very metallic and off. Mouthfeel is very carbonated and light bodied. As far as drinkablity, I am going to have to muscle my way through this one pint. Their are tons of IPA's out there, and this one falls upon the lower rungs of the ladder, in my honest opinion. (557 characters)

Cricket Hill Hopnotic

Pours clear gold with a big head with good retention.

A little bit of citrus aroma with earthiness, but also a weird wheaty tart note.

Starts out somewhat spicy finishing with an earthy bitterness.

Mouthfeel is too thin and adequate carbonation.

Really not good at all. Not even remotely close to an IPA hop profile with off flavors and a thin mouthfeel to boot. It's a shame after how beautiful it looked. (437 characters)

Pours a medium brown with a thin beige head. Nice lacing. Nose is quite grainy with some pale malts and grassy hops. Taste more like an English mild than IPA. Hops are quite mellow, as are the malts. Light body lacks carbonation and is thin in the finish. Not very impressed by this one. (287 characters)

A: Overflowing glass of foam, that is mostly white.

S: Aroma of cake batter, dough and pale malt. Some sweet hops, but nothing over the top, not what I call Hopnotic by aroma.

T: Bleh, probably the worst single ipa I have had in well over a year or two. Doughy taste, overbittered and horrible flavors all around. Just Not.... good

M: Over carbonated, light mouthfeel.

O: Please dont try this. I am reminded of one of my earlier home brews that was OK... for a homebrew... (477 characters)

Overall it's a good beer, but fails as an IPA. Doesn't have the grassy, hoppy aroma that I've come to expect from other IPAs. Pours a cloudy pale yellow, small white head. Lightly citrus taste that lacks a hoppy punch. It's really not a bad beer, easy to drink and tastes good, but not a good IPA. (334 characters)

Although this is not a strong IPA as some i have tried, it does have the same drawbacks and the rest of them. It had a hoppy smell and a stronger aftertaste then what im used to. Cricket Hill did do a good job with this beer, it is a shame that I did not prefer this beer (271 characters)

This beer has a few of the elements of a good ipa. The main thin that I felt that was missed was the big hoppy flavors. The color was on the copper side and fairly clear in color. The beer was just a little weak to me. Not the greatest IPA out there. (250 characters)

I was thoroughly unimpressed by this IPA (I may have even made a Jersey joke while drinking it out of spite). I picked this up from the store without any prior knowledge of it, just never saw it before.

It poured a mild to darker amber, but clear. I think it was the smell that first set me off, it was just bland and kinda metallic. The taste confirmed this, maybe a bad batch or bottle but there was definitely a metallic taste that was more prominent that any of the weak malts, and are there hops here?

I did not finish my 12oz bottle, it would be a waste of carbs. (571 characters)

I am sampling a cold bottle in a pint glass. The beer pours a lite gold color with soft fluffy off white head foaming up about 2 cm and holding at least a surface layer throughout.
Aroma is pretty mild with slight caramel and a bit of bitter citrus hops but overall very mild. Not too great on the nose IMO.
First sip reveals a lite and thin body with average carbonation. Flavor is rather empty up front but does come through with an orange rind bitter bite on the finish. Pretty one dimensional on flavor and rather mild at that.
The beer is clean but rather empty. It does go down very easily.
I wont buy this one again. (630 characters)

It poured about an inch of light head. Somewhat of a hazy pale yellow. Couldn't detect much in the aroma, perhaps a bit of biscuity yeast. Had a very mild citrus taste, a bit of bitteness and a tad of malt.
Fairly nicely carbonated and pehaps creamy.
Not really too much to get excited about here, and I had high hopes having spent my formative years in NJ. (357 characters)

There doesn't appear to be a date on the bottle.

A: Hazy golden in color, looks to have a lot of floaties. Maybe a finger of soapy white head that fades quickly leaving light lacing, sparce lacing and a ring of bubbles around the edge of the glass.

S: Without a bottle on date, it's hard to say, but I'll guess this is an old bottle. Hardly any hop smell at all. Faint, faint grass, yeasty, bready malts. To be honest, this isn't even close to what I'm looking for in an IPA. I understand that this is supposed to be an English style IPA, but I'd still like something a little more.

T: Taste isn't half bad, but hops are still a little too subtle, even for an English IPA. I will say the hops do have a nice grassy, slightly bitter finish. Sweet, bready malts are the predominate taste here.

M: On the light side of medium. Well carbonated.

O: This isn't a terrible beer, but I wouldn't pick it up again unless I knew it was fresh. (936 characters)

A - Two fingers of white foam on top of a lightly hazy, golden body. The head settles slowly and leaves nice, thick lace.

S - A yeasty aroma with notes of malt, spicy clove and wheat (it smells like a wheat beer?!?)

T - A weird, spicy character up front with notes of lemon zest and vanilla. Some more of the same in the middle that transitions to a sweetly malty finish with fairly strong bitterness.

M - Medium-thick body, moderate carbonation, and a dry finish.

D - Wow, this is terrible. The hop character is almost non-existent except for a slightly harsh and fairly strong bitterness in the finish. It is equal parts odd and bad; and let me be clear here: I am not rating this poorly because it is an English IPA and I wanted an American IPA, I'm rating this low because it is a bad beer by any standard. If anything it tastes like a poorly conceived wheat beer. (872 characters)

Had this on tap at Capital Ale House.

A - Dusky looking copper color with a small head and a bit lof lacing.

S - Get a lot of malts and sweetness on this, with hops on the back end. A little bready, hops are mosly of the grassy/farmy type, but they are too understated.

T - I asked the server two times if he had brought me the right beer. Did not taste like an IPA at all. He confirmed, and I also confirmed later with a fairly knowledgable bartender. Tastes like a skunked pilsner. This was horrible, mostly sweet, very little hops.

M - Little watery, nice carbonation, lighter side of medium bodied.

D - I guess it's not hard to drink, except you have to get past the bad taste. (686 characters)

12oz bottle with no bottled on or freshness date, poured into Hair of the Dog tulip, reviewed on 6/25/11.

A: Pours a clear very light golden color with whitish head that leaves some nice rings of lacing around glass.

S: Pale malt and yeast, practically no detectable hop aroma.

T: Sweet pale malt and honey, some yeast, maybe some herbal hops.

M: Fairly smooth medium body with low-moderate carbonation.

O: If you are going to call a beer an IPA you need to be able to smell and taste the hops, this beer is lacking big time in the hop department. Its not a bad beer, if I were reviewing it as an English pale ale it would have gotten much higher marks but if they label it an IPA I will review it as such. (711 characters)

A: dirty yellow body, trace white head,
solid lacing

S: faint lemon grass/veg, corn/grain, caramel

T: lemon grass, earthy veg, light malt, hint
of bitter/oily finish

M: light/med body, mild oily/slick mouth

O: Thought I would give this brewery another
go, but again was not thrilled. Would
not recommend, nor buy again.

A: single finger head with excellent retention on a golden with crimson hues body.

S: nice strong aroma but unfortunately it smells like a wheat beer with orange peel, breads, grains.

T: again this one is more like a wheat beer than any kind of IPA be it English or American. Little hop content instead wheat, breads and some citrus make up a beer that maybe should be re-labeled. fruity phenol and yeast content.

M: light to medium body and high carbonation.

Overall: This is a strange beer. It would make a decent witbier but this one has little in hop character. (569 characters)

What a great LOOKING beer.... and I'm sorry to say it stops there.

Looks beautiful, nice copper color. Not much of a lasting head though.

Taste was very underwhelming. I'm told its supposed to be an English IPA but nowhere on the packaging does it say that. Even if it were, its a very long way from Samuel Smith IPA. Not much malt, and not much hops in the taste.

Mouthfeel was undercarbonated. Maybe it fits with the whole English IPA thing, simulating on cask? I did notice a little bit of crustiness around where the bottle cap was supposed to be. Maybe this whole sixer had loose caps?

Overall... I'm sorry. Its just somewhat below average for a craft beer. (668 characters)

12 ouncer, pours very light and golden, minimal white head, quickly dissipates and leaves no lacing. Mild hop nose. Watery center, minimal grainy hop package. Malt for body and hops for flavor and complexity called for to lift this weak and lame "IPA" up to respectability. Not impressed, just slighly better then macro piss water. (331 characters)

I tried to like this beer. I tried it several years ago but was unimpressed. I came back to it recently and I was even less impressed.

Pours a pretty, clear orange with a large fluffy white head. The aroma is clean and citrusy, though not distinctive. Flavor, however, is not great. There is some light fruit, apricot and peach, with some delicate jasminy hop character. But there is a briny quality that overwhelms the beer - it is salty and a bit metallic. The mouthfeel is solid, dense and briny. Not so great. (514 characters)

Poured from the bottle into a pint glass.

A: Mountains of foam, I had to let it die down a few times. Some nice bubbles up from the bottom through a gold-orange body to a white head.

S: Smells mostly of yeast, not much malt or hops to speak of.

T: Again mostly yeast. The description here specifies it's an English IPA, but even then I'd expect more bitterness. This would be a mild pale ale.

M: The saving grace - it's fantastic. Smooth and full with a very clean, bubbly finish.

O: Not for hop-heads. Fairly sessionable ABV could fit in well at a barbecue. (563 characters)

A- Very pale orange, almost yellow. The head quickly fades leaving behind virtually no lacing.

S- Almost no aroma, very mild malt tones with some grapefruit hops.

T- This is an IPA? I understand that it's an English IPA, but this tastes more like a craft lager. It's very light with a malty character. Grapefruit hops are present at the end, but are not very pronounced and only leave a slight lingering bitterness.

M- Very light bodied for an IPA with moderate carbonation.

D- High drinkable for an IPA since there is virtually no hop presence.

I wouldn't consider this an IPA, it's closer to a Pale Ale. It actually tasted very similar to Appalachian Brewing Company's Mountain Lager, which is a completely different style of beer. There is nothing offensive about this brew, but there's nothing great about it either. (826 characters)

Picked up single bottle of this at a local store since I hadn't seen it in the state yet. I have to say, I was disappointed. Pours a quite hazy golden with very little head. What head there is does stick around as a light swirl and leaves some scant lacing. Light notes of citrus and paraffin in the nose, and not much else. Undercarbonated, and frankly, the beer seems unfinished with some raw wort notes of a sweet graininess and a bit of acrid bitterness. A tad grainy as well and generally it has flavors that can only be described as murky. There are some faint citrus flavors of lime and orange, but they're generally lost in the muddle. Meh. (648 characters)
