A. Pours a opaque black with a creamy tan head that sits around for the 10 minutes it takes me to finish making dinner.

S. Smells of dark roasted malt with a good vanilla component. Some oak and bourbon come out more as it warms. There's a fruitiness going on to - almost fig like.

T. Lots of the same characters as the smell. The fig character adds both fruitiness and brown sugar-like sweetness. The bitter roast comes out a bit more on the tail end. Oak and bourbon notes after swallow.

M. Bright carbonation level - i.e. fairly high and somewhat prickly. On the thin side of a medium mouthfeel.

D. As it warms the fruitiness becomes a bit too much - it turns brighter and more acidic. I popped this open with my wife; paired with a nice juicy burger and brown sugar/bourbon brussel sprouts, which worked quite well.

Bottle purchased at AJ's Beer Warehouse in Rochester, NY.

Pours a dark, deep black, with, strangely, visible carbonation, a one inch head, mocha colored, and some good lacing

Smells like dark roasted malt and bourbon.

The taste is similar. Slightly sour and tangy, with subtle bourbon, and chocolate- cocoa powder, mainly. Some vanilla, as well, with tart dark fruits- cherries and grapes.

Medium bodied, slightly thin for the style. Very creamy and smooth.

This one is a bit better than it's ratings show, but isn't quite big enough to match its barrel characteristics. The sour-ish twang isn't all that pleasant either, but goes away as the beer warms up.

22 oz bottle served in a Belgian snifter.

Pours a very dark but clear reddish-brown. Small head soon reduces to a bubbly ring.

The aroma is sweet with a clear controibution from the bourbon barrel. The barrel aging is even more apperent in the flavor where it dominates the sweet malts. Rather sweet but short of cloying, with some bitterness coming out in the aftertaste.

Near medium body with a satisfying, but higher than expected level of carbonation. Flavor profile seems to call for a fuller body.
