stopped here on a BA recommendation while on a trip to boston. tried on my way into town on thanksgiving, but the store was closed. the wife gave the thumbs up for a saturday trip in the AM when she saw the abundant shopping available in the center (big bonus for fellas looking to pull in a big haul without the wife watching over all the bottles going into the cart.
quality was top notch. i didn't wast any time looking in the other 75% of the store filled to the brim with wine and liquor. i'm sure i could've blown my beer budget without buying one beer had i ventured into the single malt scotch or bourbon section...but onto the beer. the far end of the store is a few isles with just beer. you've got 6'ers, cases, bombers, cold or room temp...and yes, you can buy singles here. pretty much everything had a price on the shelf...at least as good as a target or walmart (ya know, there's always a few things on the shelf with no associated price in sight).
as for service...gotta give props. i mentioned that i was from new york and was curious what i could get here that i couldn't in my home state and the onslaught of suggestions was so good it even got annoying after a while (lol). i was pretty pumped to be able to pick up quite a few different bottles of lost abbey (including some of the barrel aged brews). also was surprised to see plenty of 2009 bcbs on the shelves (saw this in another shop in boston too). there are only a few shops i've been to that had better selection, but gotta give the 5 there since they seemed to get everything, although it is a highly shopped spot so when i asked about the BCBVS i was told it came in and sold out this past tuesday...no surprise...but they did get it, so it would've been there had i gotten there sooner.
prices seemed pretty in line with what i was used to in NY if not a bit cheaper. i had heard that this was the top spot in new england and let me tell you, i had no issues blowing my entire budget and had to hold back to not exceed it. that and i only bought one bottle of everything i saw.
the best part of all was when i was checking out, i learned that it was 15% off today (maybe for holiday shoppers?)...so that gave me the opportunity to run back and grab "one more bottle" a few times before sliding the ol' credit card.
