Sampled in a 0.5l glass, at the brewpub in Nürnberg, in Sep, 2001. Practically black in color, with a rocky, lacy tan head. Mild roasted malt nose. Pleasing on the tongue, with good body. Flavor has mild maltiness, on the roasty side; sweetness hanging around in there, with dark-fruit notes at the finish. Enjoyable bier!

Barfüßer Das Kleine Brauhaus in Nürnberg "Schwarze"
,3l vom fass / 2,60€ at the brewery on 26.09.2017
Look: Hazy very deep mahogany body beneath a full head of off-white. Very good head retention and excellent lacing.
Smell: Limited aroma with yeasty fruitiness and some caramelish malt.
Taste: The flavor follows the aroma with the addition of a hint of chocolate and more darkly caramelish malt. There's a suggestion of roastiness but it never actually get's there, which is good, that's exactly what a schwarzbier is going for. Very nicely balanced by a median bitterness. Some earthy/spicy hops in the background. Short dry finish with some dark fruitiness.
Feel: Medium bodied and crisp.
Overall: Very nicely done! Well brewed and well balanced. It could be a little richer but that's certainly not required, and it's really quite drinkable.

from my notes:
appearance: dark brown, almost opaque, no ruby highlights
Nice malt accentuated aroma with some graininess and hits of chocolate & licorice (very slight) - bready
medium light body, refreshing, moderate carbonation
darker malts come through in the flavour but not raosty. clean some grainy bready flavours but not astringent. med-dry finish
after 2 still looking for more but alas it is time to go....
