Appearance is a lovely golden amber in the glass with a plentiful foam. Prickly mouthfeel and plenty of carbonation. The flavor is rather plain and the body is light. There doesn't seem to be much sensation of malt.

The bitterness is mostly what you notice. After a couple of sips, you realize it's actually quite bitter. There is really nothing to this stuff except a rather medicinal bitterness and some hot hop oils. I don't get much aroma of other possible pleasure out of the hops. I'm avoiding this one, and if this is the Pale Ale, I will probably have to avoid the IPA if they employ the same clumsy fist with the hops. On tap at Fifty Seven Degrees.

On-tap at Oceanside Ale Works

A: The pour is amber in color with a minimal cream colored head and some streaks of lacing.

S: A light perception of bitterness on the nose along with a caramel and malty sweetness and a fairly subdued hop aroma in general.

T: There is a fair amount of bread to the flavor along with a light caramel sweetness. As with the nose, the hop character is on the minimalist side with only a touch of bitterness and not much in the way of citrus or floral notes.

M: A medium bodied beer with a full level of carbonation and a nice crisp feel on the tongue.

D: A fairly mediocre pale ale over all, but it gets the job done. I would have preferred a bit more in the way of hop character, however.
