This one is better than the reviews suggest in my opinion. It looks fantastic when poured - a nice bronze with a thick creamy head. Its smell and taste are not typical of other IPA's or Double IPA's and I think that might have affected the ratings. As others have said the expected whollop of hops isn't really at the forefront, but it is there masked somewhat by a citrusy grapefruit flavor. It also seems to have sort of a Belgian effervescence and creaminess. So the Dude doesn't really fall in with IPA convention, but I liked its uniqueness.

April 5th, 2015 - The Dude is looking good in his Obama campaign poster style artwork from Oceanside's Ale Works. Lighter brown and absent of haze, it looks appealing, and the pine scented aroma is similarly inviting. It's a little soapy and sweet too, but it's defining quality is a freshness, like mountain air on a hike. The palate is a little disappointing, lacking the buoyancy I had hoped. And the flavor is confusing and staggered. On the savory side is a biscuit quality, but it's perfumed, too, with a flat and unpleasant aftertaste.

Aroma is fresh yeast/bread, pine and spices. The flavor is pine, caramel/malts, grapefruit and a mix of honey sweetness and citrus/tropical fruit/hops in the finish.

The beer pours clear and golden with a good head. The beer has no smell. The taste is light and hoppy but it is also a rich beer. The feel is smooth and creamy and overall it was pretty good.

Thanks to my brother for sharing this garbage with me…the kind sibling that he is
From the bomber split 2 ways – 09/06/15
Dark Amber with some peachish-orange hues and a good touch of haziness across the body. A tall stack of soapy off-white froth billows upwards. Patchy and randomly scattered lace noted. Malt forward. Dusty and stale like with a very muted pine-citrus hop presence. Sweet bread, caramel candy, dried orange peel. Malt soup, muddled with bread, dried fruit, and caramel malts. Hops are faded and stale. You get some dusty pine and earthiness with dried orange-citrus but this is too malty and sweet for my liking. Goes heavy on the palate.
This Dude does not abide. Skip! The bomber is cheap for a reason. Not worth the calories.
