Thick brownish head when poured. Beer has a golden brown color. Smells like wheat, with a hint of spice. Very smooth tasting, small bubbles, stays on the tongue a long time. This is one of my favorite beers by one of my most favored brewers. This can be an expensive beer if purchased in a restaurant but can be purchased at places like Beverages and More for a more reasonable sum. Their Hefe Weisse is my absolute best beer and it has a champagne quality to it. First exposed to this beer at Mille Fleur Restaurant in Sancho Santa Fe, CA. It was a great addition to the meal and took the place of champagne which I cannot drink.

Hopf Dunkle Weisse has an extremely thick, foamy, beige head, a hazy, lighter brown appearance, with bubble streams, and heavy lacing left on the glass. The aroma is of spicy, brown bread, and the flavor is of the same, with underlying tap water and low bitterness. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Hopf Dunkle Weisse finishes semi-dry and dull.

Poured from 500mL bottle into a weizen glass.

Appearance: medium brown hue with plenty of haze and an inconveniently huge four fingers of frothy tan foam atop. Not bad.

Smell: quite wheaty with what I fancy to be a hint of chocolate. There's a good banana character here as well, which I quite like. It works.

Taste: a light wheatiness with a good phenolic character and a generally refreshing flavor. I like it.

Mouthfeel: kind of disappointingly thin, especially for the style. The carbonation is pretty good which helps, but I feel like a wheat beer should have more to offer here.

Overall: not bad, but the lack of a really good texture hurts this beer for me.

Bottle pour at the BevMo Holiday Beerfest held at Golden Road Brewing in Los Angeles, CA.

Pours a murky brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, caramel, dark fruit, and spices. Taste is much the same with a mild bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that has a better smell than flavor in my opinion.

long bottle served into an oblong glass

pours this nutty brown color that leaves a tan head.

heavenly malty yeast, spice and banana in the nose

light grains, malts, clean light finish

this beer leaves a little to be desired. looks and smells wonderful but when you taste it kinda falls flat. not that its not any good just wish the flavor profile matched the look/smell

A: Poured from a bottle to a weizen glass. Had a dark brown color and a murky texture. There was a huge, creamy, long-lasting head. Good lacing.

S: A decent, but not spectacular aroma of wheat, banana, and some malt.

T: Tasted of wheat, that bubblegum quality common to wheat beers, banana, caramel, and some mild spices. The main problem with the flavor isn't the ingredients, but rather the fact that it's too thin and weak. Could have been better.

M: A well-carbonated beer with a smooth, crisp finish. Medium-bodied.

O: Definitely a wildly uneven beer. Had some good qualities, but somehow fell short.

500 mL classic German bottle,

A: Pours a cloudy brown with a firm tan head, good retention and lace. A nice looking dunkelweisse.

S: Great bready German malt with bubblegum and clove.

T: Good malt flavour, not as complex as I thought'd be from the nose. Nice clove and herbal play mid-palate, but very much a malt driven beer.

M: Medium-bodied, a tad chalky with a nice little acidity. Easy but firm carbonation.

O: The early promise of the nose was a letdown in the taste, but this is still a solid beer. The price is a problem, it's pretty much the most expensive dunkelweisse on the shelf, and it's not the best so it's hard to make it a repeat buy even though I like the beer.

a dunkelweiss that doesn't seem to turn over as often as most. Not suprised at the score for the sake of freshness. I sure to not appreciate a tanin funky hef too. Its a real shame.

This was liquid apple pie. Brown pour. Nice head. About 4 finger in hef glass. Nose of apples and hef yeast. Palate and feel is quite nice. Apples and crisp end both dry from hopping and mineral with a toasty malt note. Although once the carbonation goes its a very plain drink. First half was better than the second. And thats saying a long seeing a good hef is for the thirsty.

nice medium brown pour with a slight reddish touch to the sides yielded a nice head of off white that stuck to the sides of the glass fairly well as it trickled down. aroma is nice and earthy with touches of roasted nuts and caramel coming through as it warms. nice deep flavor, nothing over the top but nice and consistent for the style, about what i would expect from them. deep sweet malts are driven home in the finish with a long taste of caramel that really just drives it home.

Poured into a Franziskaner weisse beer glass. Pours a cloudy deep brown color with a big tan head. Head drops after a few minutes to about a half pinkie's worth of foam.

Aromas of chocolate, banana, and light clove. Good malt sweetness, no hop aroma.

Flavors of grainy wheat, banana, good carbonic bite. All the flavors are there, but no very pronounced, a little weak. A little on the minerally side. Finish is short, with a deep caramel maltiness.

Mouthfeel is light, almost watery, with a good prickle from carbonation.

Overall, not a bad beer, not a great beer. There are many much better options for a Dunkel. But I don't think you'd go wrong giving it a try.

This is one of those beers that look and smell great, but when you actually try to drink it, it leaves a bit to be desired. It pours a beautiful golden brown color, has an excellent malty aroma as well. But when you drink it, the taste is bitter and it is very chunky beer. I was a bit disappointed in this one, but hey, it could of been alot worse!

A- deep brown with a chunky thick guinness tan head.
S - chocalate banana, much sweeter than I expected.
T - typical weiss with a malty overtone, a little watery on the M - mouthfeel, but very balanced and a clean finish.
This is a very D - drinkable beer, and a grat option for weiss drinker that want the malt, solid beer.

A: The beer is cloudy dark brownish amber in color and poured into a weizen glass with a two finger high off white head that died down but never completely faded away. A high amount of carbonation is visible.
S: There are light aromas of banana, clove and wheat in the nose.
T: The overall taste is very similar to the smell and also has some associated sweetness and caramel flavors.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a high amount of carbonation.
D: The beer is very easy to drink and goes down smoothly; it is quite sessionable.

Dark brown aggressive pour from bottle in pint glass. Tan colored two finger head.

A pleasant wheat smell. Smells nutty and sweet.

A nice balance of wheat and hops. It has a roasted nutty taste. Sweet banana and malts add to the fruitiness.

Medium-bodied and kind of creamy. It's a tasty and drinkable dunkel. Came recommended from Tiffany's.

500ml bottle.

Pours into my Weizen glass an amberish brown with a high slightly tannish off white head that billows above the rim.

It smells darker and fruitier than a normal hefe. But underneath that amped up fruitiness is the classic banana and clove combo.

It tastes lightly nutty and roasty with also the banana and clove and a hint of lemon. Pretty much normal hefe with a dash of dark malt flavors. It is very tasty.

The mouthfeel could be better, it is a bit on the watery side and sould use more of that full creamy weizen bier texture.

Overall this is a solid brew, I don't see it around much but it is pretty good.

Appearance is average for a wheat beer, golden brown darker than most hefeweizen. Aroma of the beer gives off hints of fresh banana bread and date nut bread. Not overpowering but very pleasant.

Front is very sweet, with a light taste of banana and a very slight taste of alcohol that is surprisingly pleasant and mixes well with the beer. A big banana flavor with a citrus mixed in for the mid palate and a nice yeasty finish.

This beer was recommended to me at Bierkraft in Brooklyn and I must say it does not disappoint. Overall this is an excellent beer and I recommend it to anyone who likes hefeweizens.

Bought this to compare it to the Franziskaner Dunkelweisse. It was served from a bottle into a pint glass. It poured a cloudy, opaque, brown/caramel color w/ an offwhite head. The smell was wheaty and even sour. The taste was clean and a little sour. The taste wasn't very impressive or complex. I would have almost said insipid, but after letting it warm a little, it gave more flavor. It had good drinkability because it was refreshing and not heavy.

Appearance: Dark brown/black appearance, thick brown foamy head that sticks around. Very nice presentation for a dunkel.

Smell: Dark roasty aroma. Malty, slightly nutty. Hints of citrus in the back.

Taste: Strong citrusy yeast up-front, with a dark roast back end and a dry aftertaste. Sweet, refreshing.

Mouthfeel: Thin body, low carbonation, low hops. Pretty standard for a dunkelweizen.

Drinkability: Pretty drinkable. Not as nice as some other dunkelweizens, but decent.

Rather decent Dunkleweisse, but nothing special. pours ark brown with offwhite head. Nose is fairly active with some traditional banana/clove of the regular Hefe, but also some fresh baked brownbread maltiness. Palate is somewhat thin bodied, but the fruity flavors come through as well. Nothing spectacular but not worth passing up either.

Pours a hazy brown color with a thick billowing head. Really good lacing. Aroma is basically predominantly bananna with some roasted malt. The body is medium. Good carbonation. The flavor is a combination of soft chocolate malt with wheat beer fruitiness. It's very well balanced. A good dark wheat beer.

Pours opaque brown with a thick, foamy, rocky off-white head. Metallic wheat aroma, with only a small amount of clove and bubblegum. Sour wheat taste at first, but after 2-3 pulls, it gets a nice cereal taste with a good amount of banana. I've had better, but this is not that bad.

A - A massive pillowy head with no intent to subside sit over a very cloudy deep brown brew.

S - Faint bananas, caramel, cloves, hints of pears and faint earthy yeast.

T - A deep earthy malty flavor with a hint of cloves and very faint chicory. The aftertaste is a strong earthy malty bitterness. It is nice.

M - A tad astringent, medium to thick body. Refreshing.

D - A nice brew. Malty and pleasant, very true to style. If I crave a dunkel, I will likely have this again.
